What to expect?

So after my recent blood tests done on medichecks I visited my doctor. He decided to run some more tests which I don’t have the results of, but my antibodies were still high and my ferritin level although in range low. He’s put me on iron 3 times a day and referred me to see an endocrinologist. I’m just wondering what to expect.... if anything. I did ask what could be done and my gp said something about they need to find out if the antibodies are just attacking my thyroid or if it’s something else autoimmune? I’m just wondering do I take a list of my symptoms? Should I carry on taking the vitamins I take ie selenium, b complex, vitamin C ect? What questions should I ask?

Thanks Diane

Are you now on loading dose from GP for very low vitamin D

Plus looked into supplementing magnesium and vitamin K2 Mk7 as well when taking high dose vitamin D

Have you had coeliac blood test done? And are you now strictly gluten free?

When you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Until vitamin levels are optimal your thyroid levels won't really reflect your real level of how hypothyroid you may be.

Improving gut function helps improve vitamins

Bone broth, fermented foods like kefir and sauerkraut, plus probiotics can all help too

Hi SlowDragon sorry for the late reply. Yes I’ve been taking a loading dose of vitamin D 20000 twice a week and the K2 Mk7. I haven’t started on magnesium yet but have started the KetoDiet so I’m gluten free. I have noticed I’m not as bloated with it already but it’s early days still yet.

I was surprised my doctor referred me to be honest.... maybe he’s fed up of me going in with joint and muscle pain 😂 lol

Make sure vitamin D is retested at end of vitamin D prescription

You are likely to need ongoing maintenance dose, but NHS won't prescribe once in bottom of range

Better You vitamin D mouth spray is good as avoids poor gut function. Aiming to keep level above 80nmol, around 100nmol may be better

Antibodies attacking thyroid IS autoimmune. You might want to see if you can choose the endo from the list of recommendation on TUK as most endos are diabetes spacialists and know nowt about the thyroid.

That’s what I thought Angel_of_the_North. Antibodies = Hashimotos, will see what this endocrinologist has to say but reading other posts I don’t hold much hope.
