Can anyone tell me, is the stress you feel Adrenal or Corisol related?

I'm finding at the moment there are situations when I'm completely overwhelmed resulting in instant stress coarsing through my body. Even the slightest upset from my young ones instantly upsets my hearing & brain but I realise the noise & light sensitivity is a hypo symptom, even tinnitus.

For many months now I've not been able to cope with getting all four of us ready to be out of the door for 8.15 on school days, so my husband helps.

Is this adrenal related or cortisol related ?

Thank you 🙂

Adrenaline is produced by the adrenal glands. So is cortisol. They are both stress hormones.

I've never heard of anyone trying to treat too much or too little adrenaline, other than by things like learning how to relax, taking some gentle exercise, mindfulness, things like that.

Usually though, people concentrate on optimising cortisol, if they can.

I've gone through episodes of severe stress in recent years - both physical (illness-related) and emotional (death of a close relative) and I felt I was running on adrenaline. Despite this I have managed to improve my stress response by concentrating on reducing my high cortisol. The adrenaline appears to have reduced by itself.

Note that low cortisol seriously affects the stress response, just like high cortisol does.

That's brilliant, thanks so much human bean.

I'll look into the cortisol aspect & get levels checked out. It seems I can't cope with the slightest stress & then it's flight, as I have no fight 😊 Thank you again

Your previous post showed you had high TSH and low FT4 and TT4

Your body is having to run on adrenaline instead of adequate thyroid hormones

Have you started on Levothyroxine?

Thank you SlowDragon.

Argh OK, thank you for explaining.

I've got fresh results to post & no, I never did start on Levo in the end. I apologise, I've spent to much time deciding between Levo or NDT that I could have been feeling better by now! Own stupid fault. Will search out my results & post for advice.........finally made a decision.....NDT

Thanks again 🙂

Why not start on Levothyroxine? It does suit many people and is free on NHS, including all other prescriptions too

If starting with NDT make sure to test antibodies before and soon after. It can make antibodies rise for some people

Yes, my results show higher antibodies than last test, despite having gone GF. I'll admit I was put off by going down the GP route before but I feel better equipped to take them on & as you rightly point out it's free.

Thank you, as always you are so helpful.
