Good afternoon,can anyone tell me.....
There are so so many if you go to the thyroid uk website there is extensive information about both illnesses.
This is a link re fibromyalgia and Dr Lowe was Director of The Fibromyalgia Research Foundation before his death last year.
Thank you both,I have just started reading some stuff on the uk thyroid site and when I read the symptoms list for hothyroidism I couldn't believe how many I have.It said constant urine infections which I have been having for two years now so Iam going to read up as much as I can.Iam seeing my g.p tomorrow, which tests shall I ask for and are they available on the NHS?xx
Your doctor will want to do a TSH (because he/she isn't trained to read the results of the better tests.) I always insist on a Free T4 just because my consultant years ago said it was a better indication of anything wrong in my case. You could try to push for that, depending on how receptive your GP is. They will probably say the TSH is enough and that the Free T4 couldn't be out of range if the TSH is fine, but it's still worth asking... if they seem in a good mood!
Always from now on get a copy of all your blood tests, particularly your thyroid gland, complete with the ranges (labs differ). You are entitled to them. Even if the GP says your results are 'normal' post them on a new question. Also ask for a Vitamin B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate. The first two in particular are usually deficient in hypothyroidism.
