lost all energy

been on jarrows b right and b12 for a few weeks, things were going great i was out walking most nights and feeling pretty good

the last few days i have felt awful, short of breath, zero energy, struggling to do anything and while doing any walking even around the house i struggle to breath, and occasional chest pain from trying to get a deeper breath

ive googled symptoms about low ferritn 30 (30-300 ug/l) folate and b12 not tested and my symptoms match that of low ferritin

whats the best iron to take to increase levels

no point seeing dr (although i will make appointment) because my level is just in range so no help will be given

Unfortunately it's not as easy as just supplementing iron because ferritin is low. As yours is at the very bottom of the range it could indicate iron deficiency anaemia so testing for that is important - a full blood count. Also, an iron panel because if serum iron is high you wont want to be adding more iron. It's complicated so you need the whole picture really.

i can see what dr says

That you did - here they are:

So the FBC results don't indicate iron deficiency anaemia where the treatment would be 3 x ferrous fumarate daily. So before considering supplementing you really need to have an iron panel done and check out this link, scroll down to IRON RELATED

i landed up going to the walk in last night

heart and lungs sounded good, stats were good

asked if i had any calf pain.....no

swelling of the ankles....normal for the time of year

cough....no

showed him my blood results and he suggested seeing dr for follow up and to see if i needed iron, he also said my symptoms were classic for low ferritin

he also said it could be a viral infection

if i get worse, start coughing up stuff or pains in my chest to go to either the walk in or A/E

i will call drs tuesday

im also waiting on scan again for fibroids as the mireana coil has not stopped the heavy bleeding

also i was seen and home in less than 45 mins..........we were the only people there, normally its heaving

Heavy bleeding would be likely to lead to low ferritin

Heavy periods are classic sign of being hypothyroid

Perhaps you need dose increase if now more active and doing more

When was Thyroid last tested? What were results

mandy72 profile image
mandy72 in reply toSlowDragon

i was at drs yesterday seeing a nurse who seen a dr for advice

she couldnt understand why my ferritin wasnt treated earlier as my levels have constantly been dropping so after talking to dr i am now on ferrous furmarate 210mg 3 times a day

last thyroid results were 4.72 (0.38-3.33)

i struggle with taking eltroxin but better than i am with levothyroxine

im not attempting the full dose of 150mcg rather than 150/100 alternate days

i get all jittery feeling after a while and have to lower the dose but im trying to see the dr who allowed me on liquid to see if i can go back on that as i did really well and it was on the demand of endocrinologist that i was put back on tablets

TSH is far too high as it is. Should be around one and FT4 towards top of range and FT3 at least half way in range

Surprised you can function at all

You need FT4 and FT3 tested too (obviously)

What about vitamin D, folate and B12 levels?

mandy72 profile image
mandy72 in reply toSlowDragon

FT4 hardly gets tested T3 never gets tested unless you are on T3 meds only

ive asked many time for |Vit d to have it refused by the lab

these were done 3 months ago

b12 460ng/L (180-915.0)

folate 5.2 (3.1-19.9)

ferritin 41 ug/L (30-300)

tsh 6.60

Vitamin D you can test via vitamindtest.org.uk £29 NHS postal kit

Very easy to do

Folate and B12 are not brilliant. Do you take a good vitamin B complex? One with folate in . Remember to stop taking 3-5 days before any blood tests if so. Biotin can falsely affect test results

FT3 you need to get tested via Medichecks or Blue Horizon

Can do just TSH, FT4 and FT3 or add in antibodies testing

Do you have Hashimoto's? Diagnosed by High antibodies

money is so tight at the moment so will have to hold off on private testing (works van needs a lot of work done for MOT)

Lots of people take Jarrow B right.

Surprised your B12 and folate not higher then

Do you supplement vitamin D at all?

Are you on strictly gluten free diet as you have Hashimoto's?

It often helps reduce symptoms and weight!!!

mandy72 profile image
mandy72 in reply toSlowDragon

ive only been on the b right and b12 a few weeks

dont take vit d but i could get some

not strictly gluten free im afraid but its getting to the point i wont be having any gluten as i have to cut the crabs out due to be diabetic

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply tomandy72

Push GP to test vitamin D. You should test before start supplementing.

Hashimoto's is linked to low vitamin D

hypothyroidmom.com/92-of-ha...

Being overweight can result in low vitamin D, or low vitamin D may cause us to be over weight

If you have type 2 diabetes then can also be linked to low vitamin D
