How can an NHS GP prescribe dessicated Thyroid?

Hi, I have just joined. I have tested positive to dessicated Thyroid by 2 Kinesiologists and I feel much better when taking it, but the EFRA I was on has become prohibitively expensive now. Although while on EFRA my blood tests showed borderline Thyroid levels, indicating that I should increase the dose, my NHS GP has said that he is not allowed to prescribe it because it is not an approved medication. This webiste lists suppliers that require a presciption from a GP and states that the various pharmaceutical dessicated Thyroids detailed have been prescribed by GPs on the NHS. Is there anything I can show my GP regarding prescribing me pharmaceutical dessicated Thyroid, or how other NHS GP's are able to prescribe it?

Many thanks

My memory is a bit rusty on this but I think they apparently can prescribe it on a 'named patient basis'. There is something about it on the Thyroid UK website. All I clearly remember is my GP saying, no! Hope you have better luck :)

Most here would be getting a private prescription via private doctor. There are very few NHS endocrinologists or GP's who prescribe NDt

There are a few more that will prescribe T3

Email Thyroid UK for list of recommended thyroid specialists, some are T3 or NDT friendly

please email Dionne
