Any advice please.

Hi

I’ve just had my results from medichecks and wondered if anyone can give me some pointers on how to approach my GP. At my last NHS appointment my TSH was 4.25 and he told me that my issues were probably psychological not related to Hypothyroidism. I’ve now had the results back and they are as follows:

Thyroid Function

THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE *6.25

FREE THYROXINE 16.6

TOTAL THYROXINE(T4) 122.0

FREE T3 5.16

THYROGLOBULIN ANTIBODY <10 THYROID PEROXIDASE ANTIBODIES 10.2

You haven't given us the ranges - which is vital - so difficult to comment. But, your TSH is obviously well over-range. You are hypo. You were when your TSH was 4.25, but doctors are so ignorant about thyroid that they don't know that.

Did you not have a Tg antibody result?

As for your doctor, who knows! You could try pointing out to him that your TSH is rising, and that now it's reached 6.25 you really are hypo, and should be treated.

Were both tests done under the same conditions? Early morning and fasting?

Hi

I’ll have to check but I think i wouldn’t have fasted for any previous tests. I’ll post another copy to show the units.

But, were they both done at the same time of day?

The previous test was 13th March at 09.40. This one was on Monday at 09.30. The only difference being that I fasted on the second testbut not on the first.

Well, I doubt just fasting would make so much difference, it's the timing that is the most important. So, it looks like your TSH really is rising. But, even though it is over-range, you have to remember that UK doctors like to leave it until the TSH hits 10! Plus, your Frees really aren't too bad, at the moment. So, I don't really know what argument you could use if he isn't convinced by the TSH.

That’s what I thought. Thanks for your advice. It looks like I just need to wait another five or ten years to hit the target. 😔
