Looking at previous posts

Your on strictly gluten free diet

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

If taking vitamin B complex, presumably you stopped this a week before blood test

Folate is low…..personally in week before blood test when I stop vitamin B complex, I take separate folate supplement and separate B12 instead

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Yes thats correct, strictly GF for about 6 years. I used to take B12, B complex, D3 and K2 but stopped them all at Christmas. Test was done at 9am and no levothyroxine for 24 hours. I always ask for the same brand.

Ferritin is high, likely due to inflammation of Hashimoto’s

But iron is low

humanbean or SeasideSusie may pop along with advice on how to improve

FT4: 17.5 pmol/l (Range 12 - 22)

Ft4 is 55.00% through range

FT3: 4.32 pmol/l (Range 3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 only 32.97% through range

Suggests you have room for small dose increase in levothyroxine

But you are poor converter and likely to benefit from addition of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

Email Thyroid U.K. for list of recommended thyroid specialist endocrinologist and doctors who will prescribe T3

tukadmin@thyroiduk.org

Which CCG area are you in

Some are more willing to prescribe T3 than others

But price has dropped considerably

28 x 20mcg tablets Now just over £60 …..down from £268 when only one supplier

Private prescription enables access to Thybon Henning 20mcg tablets T3 at 50-60p per tablet

Typical dose of T3 is 10-20mcg per day

Ok thank you. I am in Shropshire. I will look into T3.

How do you feel?

What thyroid meds to you take?

When was last dose of thyroid meds before test? Last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before test, last dose of NDT or T3 should be 8-12 hours before the test, splitting dose the day before and adjusting time of NDT or T3 if necessary.

What, if any, supplements do you take?

If you take biotin or any supplement containing biotin (eg B Complex or nail/hair supplement) did you leave this off for 3-7 days before the test?

Serum iron is low in it's range at 31%, should be between 55%-70% (higher end for males)

Ferritin is high, and because your CRP isn't raised your high ferritin doesn't seem to be due to inflammation. Is high ferritin something you've had before?

A serum magnesium test is unreliable. About 99% of magnesium is stored in bone, muscles and soft tissues, leaving about 1% in the blood. So testing what's in the blood isn't giving an accurate picture of our magnesium status.

A red cell magnesium test is the better indicator of magnesium status, not the standard serum magnesium test.

I take levothyroxine 100mcg and have done for about 3 years now. I didn't feel well but took Vitamin D3, K2, B complex and B12 and have felt much better. I stopped them all at Christmas to see how I felt and have been feeling ok but took the tests to check my levels. The only thing that I have had is a slight tingly feeling in one side of my face and lips. Recently I have had week muscle feelings in my arms and one leg, however I have had covid, so not sure if it could be that. My ferritin was 177 last year so has raised quite a lot. Many thanks

I used to take B12, B complex, D3 and K2 but stopped them all at Christmas.

So starting back on daily vitamin B complex and vitamin D likely to be beneficial

High cholesterol is linked to low Ft3

I have now started back on the vitamins and wont stop them again. My Mum has just been diagnosed with Polygenic Hyper cholesterolaemia so may be linked to this too. Many thanks

Has she had full thyroid and vitamin testing done?

Jillycee profile image
Jillycee in reply to SlowDragon

Yes she has had them done several times but they say that her thyroid is normal

SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to Jillycee

Hopefully that’s not just TSH, but full thyroid including thyroid antibodies and vitamins

Is this condition linked with thyroid?

High cholesterol is linked to being hypothyroid yes

But she looks like she’s had genetic testing for high cholesterol
