Has anyone else out there been diagnosed with/suffer from lymphocytic colitis? Too many white blood cells in the lining of the colon, apparently . I just wondered if this is a thyroid related or just another 'thing'! Any and all replies gratefully received. Many thanks.

Yes, I have LC and it is an autoimmune disorder so if you have Hashimoto’s, it is likely that you will get other autoimmune disorders. I know that my LC flares if I take anti inflammatory medication so avoid those where possible. But when I do flare, I find that Budesonide works very well for me.
Thank you Barrister. I have not been diagnosed with Hashimoto's, although i suspect that this is what i have. Have been prescribed mesalazine which i am reluctant to take as it is a steroid. Not at all sure what to do.
Budesonide is also a steroid and they help to reduce the inflammation. There is a forum for Microscopic Colitis (LC is considered to be part of this group) and they have been extremely helpful - perskyfarms.com Have a look on there as they have lots of advice re diet etc.
I was diagnosed with Crohns post surgery for gut TB. This was around 45 years ago and more surgery followed. The health of the gut has a huge impact on the rest of our health too and I read your other post about you having Fibro. I too was diagnosed with Fibro in 2000 by a consultant & Hashimotos in 2005.
Have you considered being gluten and dairy free to reduce inflammation ?
My only meds are T4 & T3 along with a host of supplements.
How are your VitD levels ? I read on a previous thread of yours the suggestion to look at Dr Myhill's website about mitichondria - wondering if you found it helpful ? I think her website is amazing as are her books. Am sure she will have good advice about LC too.
Thank you for your advice, i must admit that the gluten and dairy free option hadn't occurred to me. It's certainly worth a try. Already on 1000mg of vitamin d as prescribed by my GP. Dr Myhill's site is certainly helpful. Are you prescribed the t3 or do you 'self-medicate'?
I live in Crete so look after myself now I have gathered information - still learning though ! I was prescribed T4 & T3 - the former I can buy OTC - T3 prescription only in my area.
Gluten and dairy can create inflammation. Stop the gluten first and follow later with dairy - or vice versa ! You may wish to look at The Whole 30 Eating Plan where you give up both for 30 days before re-introducing slowly to see what is upsetting the gut ....
How lovely to live sto Kriti! Visited there many years ago and was thrilled, having read all the Mary Renault books as a teenager. Would love to visit there again some time, health permitting. Thank you for your excellent advice, as I really had not thought of the gluten/dairy angle at all. So much still to learn.
Efharisto para poli. Kali nicta sas (sou?). Hope the transliteration is right!
I have ordered the book, and am looking forward to giving it a try. I asked my GP surgery for a copy of my latest results about three weeks ago and have still not had them. Will have to remind them,I think. Seriously thinking about having the private tests done. At the moment the only supplement I have is vitamin d at 1000mg prescribed by my GP. Not sure if they do any good. Yassou!
Hi - I think you are on the right track to consider having the Private Testing done - it is the only way to find out the complete picture and with the results you can make a plan. TSH - FT4 - FT3 - Anti-TPO - Anti-Tg. Also B12 - Folate - Ferritin - VitD - will post the link below of the companies that do Home Testing Kits - used buy 1000's on this busy forum
Once you have the results do start a new post so more people see then and of course I will look out for them !
Surgeries should now have on-line facilities so you can check all your results - so ummm ! Give them a ring and say you will be around to collect them on Monday !
Are you taking the co-factors Magnesium and VitK2-MK7 with your VitD. Do you know what your VitD result was - it would have to have been very low for a GP to prescribe so I am thinking you are on too low a dose. I take 5000 IU's - as it is anti-inflammatory and a steroidal pro-hormone it could be good for your gut to be taking a higher dose There I go again - being bossy !!
Hubby's birthday today so we drove to Prima Plora for a fab lunch in Rethymnon - with our toes almost in the water - it is so hot today ! Took a yoga class this morning - so now time for a snooze !
Rethymnon is where we stayed when we visited but after 20 years or so I expect it has changed quite a lot. The harbour was lovely as I remember it. Happy birthday to your hubby. I don't feel as though the vitd is doing much. Have been on it for about 6 months (nasty big chalky things to chew!), so perhaps a higher dosage is needed. Will post my results as soon as I get them. Thank you so much for your advice, not at all bossy! Sleep well.
The gel capsules for VitD are good by Healthy Origins from Amazon - and not too expensive. Maybe adding the co-factors will improve things with the VitD ...
Started to do some reading on which vitamins work with other vitamins etc., and oh what a minefield! Can't understand why they (the medical profession) prescribe these things in isolation, have ordered some magnesium and vitamin K with Natto , which is the mk7 bit I think.
Because they do not learn about Diet & Nutrition at Med School. Big Pharma cannot patent vitamins so no dosh for them.
Hope you manage to get your results from the surgery soon. Did you ring and request them ? What is the name of the VitD tablet and how much Vit D does it contain ?
Suggested books : 1 The Calcium Paradox. 2. The Magnesium Miracle
Hopefully my results will arrive tomorrow. The vitamin D are Adcal -D3 which i take twice daily. Thank you for your suggestions, will certainly look these up.
Taking two Adcal a day only gives you 800 IU's of VitD and lots of Calcium. When taking adequate VitD - it naturally improves the uptake of calcium from foods - so adding extra calcium is not always a good idea. Hence the suggestion to take VitK2-MK7 is of great importance as it directs calcium away from the arteries and soft tissues and into bones and teeth. I would take a D3 tablet that only contains olive oil - like Healthy Origins from Amazon. I suspected Adcal when you said big and chewy - even though I have never seen one ! Calcium is one of the things found in atherosclerosis - or blocked arteries. I take 5000 IU's of D3 daily along with Magnesium and VitK2-MK7.
I would pop your results in a new post so more people see them
As always really good information! I need to make an appointment to see my GP i think. I have a some things to speak about, i think. Thank you so much for all your good advice.
Thank you. Have added the the two books to my list of reading matter. Apparently my latest blood test results are waiting at the surgery for me to pick up! Will post them as soon as I can.
