Can someone tell me what a "TSH w/reflex to FT4" test is ? My test result is 1.57 (mIU/L). Is this an optimal level of thyroid hormones? My specialist typically orders TSH, FT4, and FT3 separately. However, my primary care doctor ordered TSH w/reflex to T4 and I don't understand what that is or how to interpret it.

Fully agree with greygoose, but my way of looking at it is:
TSH and DON'T do FT4 unless TSH is very far out. That is, I read it as a very negative statement whereas a laboratory person might beam all over their face as they explain that they just might do an FT4 when it is needed. Completely missing the fact that they really and truly don't know whether or not it is needed without doing it!
