Ladies,
I am 19 week 2 days pregnant , TSH was 2.7 and TPO Antibodies was 222. I had an appointment with consultant and he says nothing to worry. I was very much worried but he says nothing to worry and baby is fine.
I thought he's Endocrinologist but just noticed his signature he mentioned as consultant obstetrician. Should i need to worry? any thoughts please...
Hi luv, See an endocrinologist and let him/her manage your thyroid issues, esp closely during your pregnancy. I wouldn't feel comfortable with an obstetrician managing my thyroid under any conditions. Think about this; you wouldn't want an endocrinologist delivering your baby, would you? Another aspect is when we are pregnant our hormones can do strange things at the best of times. Take care. And Congratulations. irina
Thanks so much.. I had a feeling of that, should I ask for endocrinologist in NHS? I bet they will ignore.. may be I can ask my GP to refer one.? aww I don't know what to do...
I'm in the US so getting straight to an endo and skipping the GP is easier. IMO it is best to be under the care of an endo as I have gathered from many posts that GP's aren't always on the same page re thyroid problems as up to date treatment info might warrant. Sometimes endos aren't either but you have a better chance of getting a treatment plan that works for you. My understanding is that the NHS can make it difficult but be persistent. If you can afford it, see a private dr.esp as you are almost 6 months pregnant and should be seen soon. It's hard to stand up to healthcare rules in any country but try not to let them push you into being managed by a GP-at least while you are pregnant. Hopefully, posters in the UK will reply with better info re dealing with the NHS than me. I've read many posts from UK members that have offered good tips on navigating your healthcare system.. Good luck. And keep checking your site. Some of us answer at odd times as we are all over the world.
Sure Thanks for that. I saw Endo privately on my 7th week pregnancy and she told not to worry with the result then. Let me contact her again and give my recent result. I have no choice and I have to see privately if NHS refuses it , Am so worried with the elevated result. Thanks for that. Ya let me see what UK people says...
Just an update , I contacted my endocrinologist and gave my test result she says not to worry as my TSH is good. My sister is Pathologist back home in India and she asked her endocrinologist friends about the result . Even they confirmed not to worry as long as TSH is good . But everyone advised me to repeat test through out my pregnancy. Big relief. Thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks so much . Oh ya my sister is well known doctor and have good friends around almost in all departments. But still I argue with her saying India and Uk is different with her thoughts 😝😝😝😝. I am going to India for the delivery and her friend is going to deliver the baby . My sister can be in labour room 😝. In India no one can be in labour room apart from patient. So it’s quite helpful.
In the US they've gotten very liberal about who can be in the labor and delivery room. Husbands, moms, other relatives- as long as the patient agrees. I had my daughter in 1967 and rules were much stricter-very emotionally cold environment. Happy things have changed. Family can be supportive. And here they sometimes have rooms that have all necessary equipment but are decorated in a comfy, homey fashion. I was able to be with my sister in 1969 but that is because I worked in the hospital where she delivered.

There is a list of helpful doctors that other people have seen in uK available by email from thyroiduk website. It might also help you choose a NHS endo if on the list. the list is sadly not extensive but you should find someone within traveling distance.
