Thyroid

I am new to this forum, please forgive me should I not present this question correctly.

I recently had a blood test - an annual arrangement

I was surprised today with a call from the local surgery.

It appears I am a borderline case? in connection with a Thyroid Function Test

A result of Serum TSH level 0.16 mu/L

I was not aware this test was to be considered. so naturally shock by the call.

I would be grateful if someone could tell me what this actually means and should I take any immediate action.

Thanking you in anticipation

Tony

Are you taking thyroxine as therapy?

Then what you need to have on your visit is to get tests for the TSH, free T4 and esp free T3 to rule out incipient hyperthyroidism (over activity of the gland). Possibly antibody tests as well but I suspect this will be resisted until they've got a better idea of your thyroid parameters. If the GP doesn't mention FT3 testing then remind them of the use of this test for hyperthyroidism. FT4 and TSH by themselves will prove nothing.

Hi , I can't remember what levels are ment to be ,I have had mine so long , DON'T WORRY, ok , mine was extremely over active and had to be knocked out with radio active iodine in the end to cut long story short , if you are eating lots and losing weight it's over active if it's under you put weight on ,but as your is borderline they may not do anything yet so please don't worry
