Thyroid Results help please

aimeeg82 profile image
3 Replies

I have had many years of problems, which i suspect to be thyroid related ( family connection) and have my recent results as:

Serum TSH level2.05 mU/L0.34 - 5.6mU/L

Serum free T4 level9.7 pmol/L8 - 18pmol/L

Everything i have looked up is showing conflicting guidelines and want to be fully informed before i see the doctor tommorow.

Any help appreciated. Thankyou.

Welcome to the forum, Aimeeg82.

TSH 2.05 indicates your thyroid is beginning to struggle and Free T4 9.7 is low in range but NHS won't make a diagnosis of hypothyroidism until TSH is >5.6 or FT4 <8.0.

You might try supplementing 100-200mcg selenium daily as selenium is good thyroid support and may delay progression to hypothyroidism.

You could also ask your GP to do ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate blood tests as low/deficient levels can cause symptoms which are similar to those assumed to be hypothyroid symptoms. If you post the results and ranges in a new question members will advise whether you need to supplement.

Hi thankyou for your reply, i have had full bloods but cannot translate them all , there is one flagged which is MCHC (mean corpusc.Hb) - no idea what that is and that comes back as 352 g/L the range is 315-345g/L.

Aimee82,

I can't remember what it means. Google "high MCHC". It's probably not significant as it is mildly over range and presumably the rest of the FBC is normal.
