I recently had a variety of thyroid related blood tests by my GP including TPA, which I requested, I was interested after 25 years to know for sure that I tested positive for antibodies.
The results came back and just said positive. I was told to get the reading to see how bad they were. I asked my GP and he said the results on his screen din’t say. I phoned the lab at the hospital and they said my surgery needs to ring. The surgery rang and spoke to three different people, all of whom said it’s a positive/negative reading with no figures.
How important is it for me to get to the bottom of my reading, and if it is important, does anyone know how I get it please?
Thank you.

After 25 years it may not matter. With Hashimotos test results may fluctuate baffling doctors and being gluten free may help. The labs response is baffling but if positive you have Hashimotos . We have however seen in other posts that some GOs cannot tell positive from negative. You could demand all the test results to be provided to you in print. Otherwise I can only suggest private testing .
Thank you. I did get all my results printed out, but it just says positive! Maybe I won’t bother stressing myself any further then if I don’t need to know the figures.
I really don't think the actual numbers matter in this case. Because antibodies fluctuate all the time. And, you can't really deduce anything helpful from knowing exactly how high they were, you just need to know if they're positive, and take it from there. The number of antibodies at any given time does not indicate the severity of the disease. I'm afraid people do sometimes tell you very weird things.
