Why do we have to have for instance a TSH of 5, to receive replacement hormone therapy. Then drs set the target to get the TSH down to 1?

TSH has an inverse relationship with your thyroid levels. If it is high, your thyroid hormones are low and vice versa. Here is a link onlinemedinfo.com/thyroid.html
Hello Bob00752 I made my point poorly. Point is they won't treat until you have a TSH OF 5 and then they want to bring it down to euthyroid levels of 1. They won't treat say 3-4 but want to correct to 1.
Probably because they don't really understand anything about thyroid. Plus, if they started treatment at 3, there would be a hell of a lot more people to treat! And, they really wouldn't like that.
Thyroid levels change through the 24 hours. I'm not giving them an excuse for not treating butvim sure that must confuse them!
