Feb . NHS test. TSH 0.40 (0.27-4.50)

FT3 6.8 (3.1-6.8) t4 15(11.0-23)

75 mcg t4 and 15mcg t3

March. Monitor my health test. TSH 0.04

FT3 5.52. FT4 15.8

6/8 weeks taking T3 15 mcg and 75 mcg t4 daily plus 6.5mcg t4 every other day to relieve symptoms of dizziness, eye twitch and constipation and bloating.

May. TSH 0.03

ft3. 7.45 fT4 15.8

Same dose as March. Only difference is, I started taking the t4 in the morning rather than at night a few days before test. T3 taken in 2 doses for all tests.

Last t3 taken 12 hours before test and t4 taken 24 hours before.

Endo wants to reduce t3 by 5mcg.

Most important thing is, how are you feeling?

not great.

Coughs and colds every single month since I stopped NDT and switched to synthetic combo. I seem to catch something, it lasts for 2 weeks or so and then 2 weeks later I fall ill again. Had antibiotics for chest infection last last month.

Lots of hair loss as before on Levo. No energy and little motivation. Hardly surprising as I have a cold or cough most of the time. Put on half a stone in weight too.

I've been in exactly the same position recently with coughs colds etc.

Perhaps an adjustment as the endo suggested, in dose will get you feeling well again.

Your TSH is very low. You will need a higher TSH to assist in the conversion process for your levo/T4.

May. TSH 0.03

ft3. 7.45 fT4 15.8

Are these the results you endo is looking at? Are they NHS results so the results/ranges are

FT3: 7.45 (3.1-6.8) = 117.57% of range

FT4: 15.8 (11.0-23) = 40% through range

[calculator here: thyroid.dopiaza.org/ ]

I can understand why your endo wishes to reduce your T3 with an over range FT3 result.

However, when on combination thyroid hormone replacement, we are all different as to where we need each individual hormone level to be. Some are fine with low FT4 as long as FT3 is in the upper part of it's range, some of us need FT4 and FT3 better balanced over half way through range. Maybe you need less T3 and a little more Levo.

As for having coughs/colds so regularly, how are your nutrient levels? Do you do anything to boost your immune system - there's lots of things I do and I haven't had a cold for at least 20 years.

all results are NHS ranges.

March and May on same dose. Only change is that for May test I was taking Levo before breakfast and Feb and March I was taking my Levo at bedtime.

Going to see gp this week and ask her to test vits.

When on NDT I had one cold a year, so one a month is very wearing!

all results are NHS ranges.

Ranges vary from lab to lab, even within the NHS.

And you've quoted Monitor My Health, which although an NHS lab at Exeter hospital doing private tests for the general public, have FT4 range 12-22 and FT3 range 3.1-6.8 with TSH range of 0.27-4.20

I now see MMH is a slightly different range. Thank you.

could the chest infection or the antibiotics have caused the synthetic t3 not to be absorbed/used by my cells? I was taking them until just a day or so before the test in May.

Well, you'd take the antibiotics well away from the T3 like any other medication should not be taken close to thyroid hormone replacement. As for the chest infection it's possible it could have messed with your levels. We shiukd wait a few weeks after any acute infection before testing thyroid.

Hi Thank You for requesting my help but I dont feel I could be much help as I am depending on the great folks on here to guide me. and I am also in a bit of a pickle myself with changing results. the only thing I will say is that having had my T4 test done previously, I consistently do what is advised here and that is to do it fasting and I also noticed that there were slight differences in results (better absorbtion of medication) once I had stopped taking the Omeprazole which I was prescribed for my stomach. I have since convinced my Endo to switch me from Eltroxine to NP Thyroid and I am due a new blood test on 7th June following this. after this I cannot comment on your results, someone else here Ianyone really besides me) is much more knowledgable on the results details. I hope you get the advice you need.
