We cannot guess what is wrong but if he hasn't had a blood test from the doctor for TSH, T4, T3 and Free T4, Free T3 and thyroid antibodies he should aks for these, just in case he is hypothyroid. I shall also give you a list of clinical symptoms.
Any blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be at the very earliest possible, fasting (he can drink water). If he was taking levothyroxine (a replacement hormone) he should allow a gap of 24 hours between his last dose and the test and take afterwads.
He should also ask for B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate at the same time as we can have deficiences which can also cause symptoms.
Get a print-out from the doctor with the ranges and put them on a new post.
The following is a list of clinical symptoms:

If you are in the UK, the doctor may only request TSH and T4 but we have private labs which will do those the doctor or lab will not.
Thank you. Very helpful.
This is a link to private labs - the first has special offer:-

If you decide to use either of these make sure your son is well-hydated a couple of days before and the blood should be drawn early am.m and fasting. This keeps the TSH at its highest as it drops throughout the day.
