Hi WoodElf,
It was Thyroid UK who found the case study for this programme. We do this all the time to raise awareness. I've just found some more Hashi's people for an Elle magazine article which we hope will spread the word to more people.
Thanks for sharing. I was diagnosed with Hashi back in June after paying for private thyroid tests and looking for any answers that would explain my symptoms. Everyone I've told I have 'Hashimotos' to, has never heard of it, and therefore now I'm gluten free it's easier to tell people I have ceoliac. More awareness would be a good thing.
The term Hashi's or Hashimotos has not been in common use in the UK. Even people who actually are on medcation for hypothyroidism don't know the term Hashi's. And doctors defintely don't know what you're talking about! It's easier to say autoimmune thyroid disease, or simply hypothyroidism.
