Please don't worry about being frightened/nervous.

I think as you swallowed the tablet you had a feeling that 'am I doing the right thing' .

T3 is the best thing I ever took (re hypo) and your dose is so very, very small. Is it endocrinologists who cause rumours - maybe if they're paid by Big Pharma to only prescribe levothyroxine.

Previously doctors prescribed what they thought was best for the patient but gradually options have been withdrawn in favour of levo plus the 'extras' for the symptoms we may still have. Keeping in mind thousands seem to do fine on levothyroxine.

Just relax and do something that will take your mind off medications. T3 is absorbed quickly but once in the T3 receptor cells its work begins and lasts for between one to three days for that one dose.

Your dose is so small you might not even be aware of any benefit.

Researchers have proven that many need a combination of T4/T3.

Thanks for your reply im still sat here with the tiny amount in my hand debating whether to take it or not!..

My main concerns are..

1. I purchased from turkey so the fact its not a uk drug and dont even know if its genuine.

2. I dont have fatigue and lack of energy like most on here so do i still need it!? My symptoms are mental symptoms

3. Will it cause that bad side effects that ill never touch it again and ill be stuck in depression forever!

T3 is essential for our millions of T3 receptor cells in our bodies.

T4 is inactive and has to convert to T3, so you are getting some T3 from the levo you already take.

However, if you aren't converting sufficient T3 from T4 that's why you still don't feel well.

Many source Turkish or Greek T3 and there's been no complaints on the forum.

So it is your decision of what you do but remember that the brain has the most T3 receptor cells.

Iv took it wish me luck!!

How long will it be to notice anything at all?

humanbean profile image
humanbean in reply toThyroidObsessed

You may not notice anything having taken only 3mcg, sorry. It is a tiny, tiny dose!

But if you do notice something it will probably be within the hour. Your heart rate may rise a little, and you may feel slightly more energetic than usual. But with such a tiny dose any effect will wear off in about 10 minutes, I suspect.

Im not taking it for more energy to be honest as my energy levels are fine, im taking it for a clearer head instead of this dark foggy detached cloud hanging over me... oh and this annoying tinnitus!!

I took it at 9.30 so will look out for anything around 10.30...

I hope you get some benefit from it. :)

My first t3 dose (10mg) brought me almost instantly about 5 minutes of light tinnitus that I've never had before and never had after, though taking triple doses of t3.

Also the effect was fully available in the first 30 minutes after the intake of the t3.

Yet again, 3mg is a low dose but a good option to start with.

your dose of 3mcg is microscopic but at least you have found the courage to take the dose. I take 50mcg but don't take levothyroxine. I know of one doctor who took 150mcg per day but it was due to being Thyroid Hormone Resistant and those people take higher doses than us 'normal' :) patients.

It's so cheap in Turkey that it is probably not worth faking it. T3 is often very good for mental symptoms as the brain needs lots of T3.

Nothing bad shall come to you with such a small dose. One very good endo told me that the brain might, in some cases with conversion issues, be the first organ to be T3 deprived at cellular level. At that point my brain wasn't suffering alone, my overall state being shitty...but I was mostly affected by the effects on the brain, including brain for, memory fading and a depression that, luckily, at some point, I had somehow perceived not being "my own" but being derived by a lack of capacity of performing usual, normal tasks.

After first T3 dose (a 10 mg addition to 150 T4) I felt within minutes a cloud disappearing from my brain. 2 years later and now on 30T3 150T4 (but tweaked a lot on that) I finally get consistently good performance from my life treatment (TT pacient) and I am content of the result.

I was fine on 100mcg of levo for 9 years!..

Something changed in the last year and a half, i have had a consistently high tsh, and the only way it goes down is when i take more levo and my ft4 goes over range!! Then come the severe side effects of too much levo.. but now on a dose of 75 of levo, i get hypo symptoms i cant win!!..

Iv tried several times to increase to 100 even very slowly in 12.5 excremants to no avail... side effects are awful its like its being toxic on my brain..

I have like an ingrained depression and anxiety that hasnt shifted in the last year and a half bar the odd days...

Just a thought: Have you checked your adrenals output as well?

ThyroidObsessed profile image
ThyroidObsessed

I had a cortisol test done before 9am by am endo it was 414 think the range when from 200- 700...

I havent had the saliva test as i dont have the classic physical symptoms with high or low cortisol which i believe are extreme fatigue and also insomnia weight gain puffy face high blood pressure.. im naturally slim and fit ...

Plus iv read theres not really much u can do to treat adrenals is there??

Caesard profile image
Caesard in reply toThyroidObsessed

I tend to agree with you, it doesn't seem to be the issue, though there are lifestyle changes that can support adrenals. In my case, i suspect that poor thyroid hormones treatment and stress disrupted the adrenals as well, but it was reversible.

Are you on strictly gluten free diet? Or tried it?

It may help too

Don't rush trying to increase T3

Take it steady.

I also started at 3mcg twice a day. (Tiny speck really! But I still found it noticeable)

After week increased to 6mcg twice day and then stayed at that until retested at 6 weeks

Would recommend retesting after 6 -8 weeks ideally.

ThyroidObsessed profile image
ThyroidObsessed in reply toSlowDragon

Nope no way i will rush anything... im only going to be taking 3mcg a once a day as i know im so sensitive to any medication...

Its now nearly 3 hours since taking the dose dont think i have benefited at all..

Other than feeling a little anxious and breathless and palps what this means i dont know...

I'm so pleased you are overcoming your fears ~ well done! 👍 I expect the breathlessness and palps are caused by your anxiety over starting the T3 ~ I am so pleased you have taken this first step! 😀 I hope it will soon restore your health, and don't worry, the knowledgable ones will help you all the way. Warmest wishes xx

I will pm u hun x

Very difficult to take as little as that and probably not worth the effort of crushing the tablet. I'd start with a quarter of a tablet. I've always been fine with Tiromel. If you feel odd, it'll pass in a few hours as long as you relax. It always made me feel better.

ThyroidObsessed profile image
ThyroidObsessed in reply toAngel_of_the_North

I didnt need to crush it because the tiromel t3 are quite large tablets, i just cut a quarter in half with my pill cutter...

I dont know whether to take the other half of the quarter today which would then be 6mcg, unsure on timing and domt want to over do it as im quite senstive to any medication...

Yayyy you did it, you took that first step :)

I wouldn't take anymore today. I would stick on the 3mcg for the first week see how it goes. If you really dont see any change whatsoever, and no negative effects Id go up to 6mcg and see how you are after 2 weeks.

ThyroidObsessed in reply toSilver_Fairy

Thank you i feel brave and relieved im glad i took the leap...

After the first hour of taking it i felt a tiny bit weird breathless and anxious but it only lasted a few minutes so dont know whether it was me or the tablet...

I shall stick to 3mcg for a week and see how i go as im very sensitive to any change or any medication... even paracetomol send me drowsy! X

I think your symptoms were down to anxiety, we all have seen how scared you are of taking T3! But you've taken that first step and nothing awful has happened. And tomorrow you will take your second dose of T3 :)

ThyroidObsessed,

I don't think I could cut Tiromel into 3.125mcg doses. Don't rush things, stick with 3.125mcg for a week and then increase to 6.25mcg divided into 2 doses.

ThyroidObsessed profile image
ThyroidObsessed in reply toClutter

This is my plan clutter, especially if i do have a adrenal problem then best to take it very very slowly so my adrenals can take it...

Not quite sure i do have a problem with adrenals though ....

I found taking my T3 in the very early morning has helped my adrenals - I had low cortisol
