Hives and Thyroid

So I just got hives for the 2nd time in 2 weeks, only on my neck over my Thyroid area. Dr. does not wish to test for Hashi's bc she states I am already on Levothyroxine and it is the same treatment whether it is Hashi or Hypo. Ferritin is normal, my ranges are normal, but my Free T3 is on the low side of normal. Hair was falling out, but completely stopped after I switched from the purple 150mg pill to the Tiroscint. I am using Monat shampoo and the hair is growing back. Yay! I state this because after much research, I found that we can have an allergic reaction to the dyes/colours in our meds. I truly think I am! I am also Celiac, FYI, but I do take all Gluten Free meds.

Any suggestions about the hives????

Fitmom50,

Hopefully Hives will no longer be a problem now you're no longer taking the purple Levothyroxine.

You are already gluten-free so there's not much more you can do if you did have a confirmed Hashimoto's diagnosis.

There is no cure for Hashimoto's which causes 90% of hypothyroidism. Levothyroxine treatment is for the low thyroid levels it causes. Many people have found that 100% gluten-free diet is helpful in reducing Hashi flares, symptoms and eventually antibodies.

Still having hives after 3 weeks of switching meds, that is my concern. Thank you for your reply.

Fitmom50,

It may be related to something else then, perhaps something in your diet.

Hi

there is a connection between hashi's and urticaria/hives.

I was diagnose hypo. seven years ago and developed hives last year.

I do not have a hashi's diagnoses as my antibodies are in range, but they are very high in range and some say because they are high I could be classed as having hashi's.

Take a look at these links.

Try taking antihistamines an hour before your thyroid meds and if it stays away then it may be an allergy to yourcthyroid meds. Yes you have changed brands but if you look in the PIL (patient information leaflet) it will tell you which fillers are in your medication. There is usually a slightly different range in each so something upsetting you in the first on could well still be upsetting you in the second. May be a chat with a pharmacist will help.
