Hello all,I have had my levothyroxine increased from 75mg to 100mg approx 2 months ago. I have suddenly developed hives on my face and wondered if it could possibly be as a result of the above increase?apologies of this has already been answered. All the best T

Has your brand of Levo changed?

I just checked and yes it has mercury pharma before ans Accord now

I don't think it is obvious why Accord should be the cause, nonetheless changes of product have often been shown to cause problems.

In case it is of any help, my medicines documents identify all UK products.

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world.

This link takes you to a page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and Google Drive, and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones.

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrix for tablets, oral solutions and liothyronine available in the UK.

It could be that you are reacting to one of the fillers in the new brand. Ask to have your usual brand prescribed and see if things settle down, if they do you'll know to avoid Accord brand in the future, and because Accord also make Almus brand for Boots then you should also avoid that. If you are fine when back on your original brand ask your GP to name it on your prescription on the first line.

Hi Susie, so I have reverted back to my old brand and also informed my Pharmacy etc so fingers crossed..thanks again. Can you tell me if splitting eyelids may be a side effect of the increase in thyroxine as its quite recent.. I may be clutching at straws but I'm desperate to find something safe to apply to the lids. Have tried vaseline but my eyes are reacting to that.

Any help would be appreciated.

Get full thyroid and vitamin testing 6-8 weeks after going back on Accord only

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
