Where do I get 23 and Me raw data analysed?

Hi All,

I've done this genetic test but I'd like to have the raw data analysed to see if I have the defect that stops you converting T4 to T3. Or any other genes related to Hashi's that might give me some useful information. I've googled a little bit about it but I'm struggling to understand all the various genetic defects that I've read about so I'd really appreciate some help with it.

Kind Regards,

Suzie

If you post the results of your test, someone will be able to respond. If you've proven positive for the following test, you should be prescribed T3 only.

Do you mean post my raw genetic data from 23andme?

I am not sure if someone will be able to do this. What we have on this forum is a DI02 test and if positive the person has a gene which prevents conversion. This is a link:

You mean T3 in your heading. Our body has thyroid hormones called T3 and T4. When thyroid gland has failed levothyroxine, T4 only, is prescribed and if the person is unable to convert levo into T3 they should be given a prescription for T3 only. I believe you'd have to be referred to an Endocrinologist as they are the only ones to prescribe T3, I believe.

I assume you are having problems being prescribed T3?

Ah I think there's been a misunderstanding. So I've done a genetic test from this website:

you.23andme.com/

It doesn't say anything about the DI02 gene in my results however. It just has fairly generic results about ancestry and wellness traits. However I can download the raw data and have them interpreted else where. I was hoping someone could recommend another website that I could upload the raw data to and it would tell me whether I have the DI02 gene or not.

I've been on NDT for awhile and feel much better than I did when I was on Levo however buying NDT from abroad is expensive and I'd like to take some evidence to my doctor as to why they should prescribe me NDT if possible otherwise T3.

If you are in the UK they will not prescribe NDT. They used to and a private doctor might but it could work out very expensive. I don't know who could translate your genetic tests but if your doctor has tested TSH and T3 it might be worthwhile getting a copy and post the results, with the ranges, on a new post.

If your doctor hasn't tested TSH, T4, T3 (also ask for Free T4 and T3 and they probably wont be) request them. The test always has to be at the very earliest, fasting (you can drink water) and if you were taking thyroid hormones you'd allow a gap of 24 hours between last dose and test and take it afterwards.

Your GP should definitely test, B12, Vit D, iron, Ferritin and folate. Deficiences can also cause symptoms.

Suzie, I haven't got all the exact info to hand, but there are several sites you can use. Some are free like GBHealthwatch, Nutrahacker, and another - I think it's Gene genie. There's also a site which you have to pay a nominal amount for called Promethease.

If you research the DI02 gene online and find out the relevant SNPs, you could also browse your raw data on 23andme to see if you have the variant alleles.

Ok perfect, I'll try those. Thanks Trixie.

Suzie ~ if you search with the search bar, there are a few replies with links on previous posts, which I found a while ago when I had the same query ~ particularly members siskin and guysgrams ~ who asked the same question as you sorry I can't link stuff ~ useless on internet. :0(

Good luck xx
