Ordering T3 with a named person prescription from Germany

Hi

My GP is going to give me a named person prescription on Monday that l plan to send to a company in Germany named versandApo. If you have used this company for T3 could you please let me know the exact wording the GP needs to put on the prescription. Also l have a form from them, that l need to send along with my prescription, with my name and address on but it’s all in German and l don’t understand it. If you know what if anything l need to write on the form l would be very grateful. Many thanks Yvonne

Hello Yvonne,

The German T4/T3 prescription is called Novothyral 100.

T3 only is Thybon

You can email the company for info- they're helpful and their English is good. [e-mail]

You have to set up an online account with them first, and get an ID number. My GP's private prescription just says liothyronine. I wrote a letter to the company in English saying I wanted 100 tablets. I wrote my ID number on the prescription and the back of the envelope, and posted it with the letter to Germany, recorded delivery. They emailed me a link to pay by credit card, and posted the tablets within a week. I've never used a form in German!

I have opened an account and have an ID number. I asked them to send an addressed envelope which they did and the form in German came with it.

I have emailed them using a link on their website but haven’t had a reply so far.

There are several different ways of paying on the website including PayPal so that should be easy.

Did you GP put 100 x20mg Liothyroxine?

Yes, 100x20 micrograms. You don't need to use their envelope and form. I don't speak German at all.

No I haven’t used them. I’m able to collect it from a pharmacy when in Germany. Check out Thybon it is different from Liothyronine. I think from recollection it’s a Chloride worth trialling to see if it’s good for you.

My son actually suggested going to Germany on holiday and taking my prescription with me 😊

My understanding is that Thybon is Liothyronine and l will be taking that and Levo.

I am really keeping my fingers crossed that it improves my symptoms.

Most T3 tablets are made with liothyronine sodium; Thybon is made with liothyronine hydrochloride. I don't know why they chose that when originally formulating the product.

We have seen one or two people suggest the difference is significant to them, but by far the majority don't make anything of the difference.

Thybon is different to Liothyronine I went the whole hog with a T4/T3 (100 Mcg/20 Mcg) combo called Novothyral and top up with Thybon or T3 .

It would appear that the combo is the preferred hypothyroid medication in Geemany.

I take an Endo private prescription and have no issues. Cost approx 36 euros per hundred tablets a couple of months ago.

As you increase your metabolism you'll have to detox and be very careful with diet , lifestyle and environment. Perhaps check for stealth infections if you're feeling poorly. Best Wishes

They are private company. A German company will not accept an NHS prescription

You can buy Thybon Henning from Germany with private prescription €30 for 100 tablets. But they won't accept an NHS prescription.

If you want to get non UK T3 on a UK NHS prescription you have to do this through a UK pharmacy. GP and Pharmacist have to be willing to jump through various hoops. It is possible (my local pharmacy refused to consider it as an option)

Yes l have been to a few local chemists independent and chain and although very friendly and understanding they only quote for sourcing it in the UK and the cost has ranged from £300 - £315 for 28 tablets which for me is totally unaffordable.

Get them to quote for a prescription written for Henning Thybon - or Liothyronine hydrochloride - then they cannot supply a UK product.

An NHS prescription conforms to all the standards required for cross-border prescriptions in Europe. I have used NHS prescriptions to purchase levothyroxine from Germany.

Sure - you have to pay as if it were a private prescription, but I don't know any reason that an NHS prescription on a standard NHS form would not be accepted.

Well here’s another options l now have. I came home today to a message from one of the local independent chemists who has finally got a price for Thybon T3 from a non UK source on a private prescription and l have been quoted approx £52 for 50 x 20mcg tablets. Although this is more than getting it online from Germany it is another option. It does prove that if you can get the private prescription there are chemists/pharmacists who are willing to help.

You can get Cynomel for almost twice the amount of pills in 25mcg quantity for a few pounds more. I’d keep looking.

Hi Ebony Sorry l don’t know what’s happened here. I got a message from someone about buying T3 from Germany. I had already had this information last year and tried to pass it on but couldn’t find out how to do it. Personally l was told by a new Endo yesterday that she is going to write to my GP saying l can have it on the NHS so l am both happy and lucky. Yvonne

I am taking interest on the feed from this post. I have purchased Tiromel T3 Livo from Turkey. I am supplementing with 5mcg on to my 75mcg of Levothroyine. Is this a small dose enough? Has any one used this brand ? So far day 3 I feel good.

Lots on here use Timorel.

You may need to add 2nd 5mcg dose after a few weeks.

Best to retest after 6 weeks on constant dose- test TSH, FT3 and FT4. Likely to need private testing to get FT3 tested
