Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear! Where was he during the afternoon they spent on the endocrine system in med school?!?
50 mcg is just a starter dose. He should have retested you after six weeks and increased by 25 mcg. You can't really expect anyone to get better on just 50 mcg. Have you been on that dose since 2012? He just has to look at your results to see you're under-medicated. TSH is too high - well over-range - what does he think the ranges are for? Once you are on thyroid hormone replacement, the TSH should be 1 or under. And, your FT3 is far too low to make anyone feel better. Most people need it up the top of the range to feel well.
And, with that low FT3, you probably have nutritional deficiencies, making things worse. So, he should be testing your vit d, vit B12, folate and ferritin.
The reason you're not getting better is that you have an idiot for a GP! Tell him to go back to med school, for a refresher course!
Then your GP has been grossly negligent, and you should write a letter of complaint to the practice manager. There is no excuse for this ignorance!
Your nutrients are dire. You must be feeling absolutely dreadful! They all need supplementing. I suppose your GP has told you they're 'fine'? Hopefully, SlowDragon will be along in the morning, to explain to you how to supplement them, to optimise the levels.
It may not be the best indicator, but yours is well under-range. How can anyone think this is ok? And, if it's not the best indicator, why don't they do the other tests that are better?
Your other results are more than slightly under-range, they are well under-range. And, considering they should be at least mid-range, this is a serious problem, and you are deficient in all of them. With that B12, your doctor should be testing you for Pernicious anemia. So, there's a lot to complain about, with this doctor.
So, you have Hashi's. Did he even mention that? I bet he doesn't even understand the implications of those results. Well, the implications are that you are going to be more hypo now than you were when you were diagnosed. Because Hashi's just makes you more and more hypo, until your thyroid is all burnt out - you get worse, not better, without the right treatment. And 50 mcg levo for six years, is not the right treatment.
How on earth is he a GP? In your shoes I would refuse to see him/her as he is basically incompetent! Has he forgotten his hyppocratic oath?????
Go see someone else in the practise! No wonder you feel poorly!! Absolute disgrace. The advice above is excellant so nothing further to add apart from my horror of his gross negligence!!
