Hi Im a 19 yr old male suffering from hair shedding since july 2017. i was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with Subclinical Hypothyroidism (HighTSH). im currently taking 25mcg levothyroxine but the hair loss hasnt stopped yet. im wondering has naybody tried taking EPO with positive effects? how long before you noticed the decrease in hair loss.

All replies would be appreciated

So sorry to hear of your problems. I have hypothyroidism with hair loss and have been taking EPO, 1 teaspoon daily, for a few years (Granovita's Organic EPO which I keep in the fridge). Sadly, my hair loss has only worsened but that is probably because I'm not on any thyroid medication yet. Hopefully others can give you some helpful advice.

do you think the hair loss worsened because of the EPO or because of the Hypothyroidism?

why arent you taking Meds?

I think that my hair loss has worsened because my hypothyroidism is untreated and not because I've taken EPO. I don't think that EPO will cause you problems but it may not help you either. For more info about why I'm not on any meds yet, please see my earlier posts. Good luck with your hair :)

Thanks for your kind message :) I was misdiagnosed by the NHS so it took me 17 years to discover that I have hypothyroidism. I only found out last Aug. I've been using natural treatments to try to eradicate the root causes of my thyroid problem so that's why I'm not on any thyroid med yet. Yes, I'm lactose intolerant.

As far as I know, EPO isn't going to help with hair-loss caused by hypo. But, it will help with hair-loss caused by taking levo, because levo can increase the production of dihydrotestosterone - which causes hair-loss - and EPO counter-acts that effect. Best to take Borage Oil with it.

greygoose - Fascinating info! Does T3 med also cause an increase in production of DHT? What role does the borage oil play?

I'm not sure about the T3, but I don't think it has the same effect. And, I'm not really sure about the borage oil, either. I was just told that EPO works better when taken with borage oil.
