I am trying to find where to buy, I know where to buy Thyroid-S, but do not know where to get the NDT main brands from for a fair price. The best place to buy T3 only medication would also be so helpful. Thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Biowarrior.

NatureThroid is in short supply as RLC haven't resumed full manufacture and are currently only manufacturing 1 grain and 1.5 grain tablets.

Members are more inclined to share sources for NDT and T3 with new members who include some background about their illness such as how long they’ve been diagnosed, recent thyroid results and ranges, and current thyroid medication.

I am currently not on medication but have struggled with symptoms for the last 3 years. My last blood tests had a test result of TSH 5.33 and T4 18.8 (pmol/L) so am thinking that T3 supplementation maybe best, to flush out rT3.

The NHS doctor said I was subclinical but refused treatment, my GP said she could treat with T4 only and refused a T3 or rT3 test.

I really just want to sort it out as this and other problems have been a big drain the last few years. (I am a young man who had an adverse reaction to a drug when I was 20 which unsettled my hormones and maybe undergo much stress, further causing problems).

I would like to find the best sources for T3 and NDT so I can begin treatment. I am going to have a blood test again very soon and would like to start treatment asap as havent been able to do much at all and want to get back to normality for a job i secured.

I would be grateful for a pm of the best sources for NDT and T3, or time release, i havent researched T3 as much, but am thinking it maybe the way to go.

Biowarrior,

rT3 is caused by unconverted T4 so it is very unlikely you have high rT3 as your FT4 isn't high at 18.8 and you are not taking Levothyroxine (T4).

I'm a bit confused. Have you been refused treatment or has your GP offered to prescribe Levothyroxine?

Clutter, thanks for getting back to me

Oh I thought because the range for FT4 is 12-22, 18.8 was in the upper half, and that mid range is roughly where people feel best? That is why I am thinking rT3 as this problem came about after my reaction, and prolonged stress, before that I was completely healthy.

I did not push for the Levothyroxine from my last appointment as I thought NDT or T3 would be better. My GP had not heard of NDT and said T3 was meaningless.

Sorry I saw an endocrinologist on the NHS who refused any treatment whatsoever, it was my GP who offered Levo.

Biowarrior,

FT4 18.8 is just over half way through range. You are taking yourself down rabbitholes by imagining you have high rT3 and need T3 or NDT. You do need thyroid replacement because TSH is high and that is flogging your thyroid to produce T4 but it isn't sustainable.

I suggest you accept your GP's offer of Levothyroxine. It is easier to administer as it is only required once daily and your GP will know how to monitor you on Levothyroxine whereas s/he won't on NDT or T3.

The goal of Levothyroxine is to restore the patient to euthyroid status. For most patients that will be when TSH is 0.3 - 1.0 with FT4 in the upper range. FT4 needs to be in the upper range in order that sufficient T3 is converted. Read Treatment Options in thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/about_...

Clutter,

Yes I am not 100%, if rT3 is a problem. I will have more information after my next test from medichecks: fT3, fT4, TSH. I paid 25 extra for a blood draw as not sure how accurate the finger prick is. I couldn't afford rT3 which would have cost another £70.

My GP is not very clued up on treatment and am not sure if she will definitely prescribe it for me, without repeated tests over a few months, to be fair she did only mention it in passing. The endo I saw was old-school and said there was no hormonal basis for my symptoms, ha.

From my research it seems NDT would be better than T4 especially if that 18.8 is not an anomaly. And maybe T3 would be needed initially, dont see the harm in trying T3 first as definitely will get TSH down and T3 up and any rT3 down. I think i will most likely try and start on NDT as much easier to dose etc. If not, NDT would be the end goal and then maybe I can taper off as I never did have hormone problems until I had this adverse reaction.

I would rather have NDT and T3 to hand as I can then be ready to slowly treat myself at the end of the month. I think I can find T3, Tiromel or uni pharma—not sure how good the brands are, because people like it for weight loss, but would still like a reputable supplier. I have ordered Thyroid-S but would rather have a mainstream brand to hand to have a safety net if one doesnt work, so I don't have to keep researching the thyroid and waiting for orders. I have spent so much time researching my health rather than living and didn't even know about my hormones as the NHS never even told me my TSH was above 5 and my Testosterone was 280 (extremely low for a 20 year old) 3 years ago. It is only when I requested the results, and got the measurements again, now I am 23.

I have only got 7 months to get better before my graduate job starts, which I spent 3 months of struggle securing, in my current state there is no way I am fit enough (I have already had two years out of the system due to these hormonal problems, and wasted three years of my life, whil e my health has deteriorated, and havent been able to do much, with poor physical and poor memory brain function etc.

If I am unsuccessful in improving in say three months, than I will take out a loan to see a private doctor, say Dr Willis who is the cheapest, to take the reins as it were.

*I would still really appreciate if anybody has a good supplier for NDT, Please please?* from say Naturethyroid ERFA etc. I think Armour is expensive, the only source I can find has run out and they are quite expensive and across the globe.

Biowarrior,

I recommend you see your GP about a prescription for Levothyroxine. There is no quick fix for thyroid problems so there is no point in saying such and such must happen by a certain date. The sooner you see your GP and commence Levothyroxine the more likelihood there is of improvement in your symptoms before you start your graduate job.

Other things to keep an eye on are ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate which are often low or deficient in hypothyroid patients.
