Struggling with symptoms
Hello and welcome.
Could you help other posters by telling them what treatment you are on?
Hi I am not on any treatment at present
Did the doctor say why you aren’t being treated? You should be on levothyroxine 50mcg at least. That will help your symptoms as your tsh needs to be lowered
Hi no reason given at all.
Oh dear thats not good. You need to go back and ask why as you have symptoms if being underactive so you should be treated.
I felt like that at first and went back to work trying to manage with those symptoms.
Yes you definitely need to look at going gluten free and taking thyroid medication, NDT if possible.
It is normal to feel like that if you are not medicated or under medicated but you need to work out a program towards remission or you will feel worse. I sympathise as someone who struggled on through work a year after diagnosis and it made me worse in the end. So I hope you can do the research and get some proper treatment to feel better.
Is that the first thyroid hormone test you've had? Or have you had others with a raised TSH? What exactly did your doctor say about those results?
Hi the first thyroid hormone test was back in 2012 and it showed TSH 5.4 (0.2 - 4.2) Free T4 14.9 (12 - 22)
GP says I have hypothyroidism but nothing else mentioned. No treatment and nothing about what symptoms I should have
Your GP wouldn't have the first idea what your symptoms should be! They don't 'do' symptoms in med school. But, he should know that if you are hypo, then you need to be started on thyroid hormone replacement - levo. I would dearly love to know his reasons for not starting you on levo with a TSH of over 11! If it were me, I would be going back and asking him.
