Pins and needles

Hi all, recently upped my dosage of Levo from 150-175. The next morning I woke up with pins and needles throughout my limbs and a slight dizziness when standing. It comes and goes. Worse during the day.

Any takers?

Matt

Hi Matt,

Can’t see that this is related to the dose increase. Seems too soon to be feeling the effects of the raised dose.

Why did you increase your dose? Do you have your recent blood test to share? If doing so please include dates of tests and normal ranges in brackets after result, plus any comments by lab or doctor.

If you take a look at the Levothyroxine leaflet you will find the symptoms of overdose and comments on how long before these symptoms appear - think it's up to 4 to 5 days.

150mcg is a high dose.

No it's not. It's a fairly average dose.

It's possible it's low B12. Which is common with thyroid. Pins & needles and dizziness are both symptoms of low b12

Have you had B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D tested recently? If not ask GP to do so

When dose was increased, was the brand of Levo the same?

I will get those tests done. No it wasn’t the same brand. This is a generic brand.

Different brands affect people differently. Perhaps take it back to Pharmacist and ask for previous brand. That would eliminate one variable

Loads of people on here can only tolerate one or two different brands

Assuming you are in the UK, Teva is often reported as causing issues

I was going to suggest the vitamins too . I think that vitamins are one of the very over looked nutrients with or without thyroid issues . We need more awareness . To be honest . I myself did not realize the importance of vitamins till I started taking them and realized how much better my thyroid meds worked for me .

I’ve started taking a b12 pill at 250 MG. Also went to a naturopath and am taken hthy supplement. WITH GREAT RESULTS. Pins and needles have gone away and dizziness is hit and miss. 😌

Still get vitamin D, folate and ferritin tested

No point testing B12 if you have started supplementing

Would have been good idea to test first, but too late

A good vitamin B complex recommended along side B12 to keep B vitamins balanced. But don't start until folate has been tested.

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

Mattdwill,

What brand were you on?

What make are you now on? If you do not know, look at the tablets and post exactly what appears on each side.

Where are you? It really helps to let us know which country you are in - and put it on your profile.
