Itchy skin

Hi, I'm interested to know if anyone thinks being on Levothyroxine would or could cause an adverse reaction to soaps, shower gels and shampoo. I've been using the stuff quite happily and then about 7 months ago (when my dosage was increased to 175mcg ) i suddenly would go mad with my upper arms being so itchy I'd have to go and have another shower. I've turned the water down to luke warm, changed the detergent and softener. Just interested to know if it could be that?

The rest of my body doesn't see to react; just my upper arms and shoulders. I'm using a prescription shower emollient. I miss the foam. I now use baby oil on my arms and shoulders before washing my hair or i bend over the bath. Will let you know how the antihistamines goes.

Barann,

Take an antihistamine an hour before your Levothyroxine for a few days. If the itching resolves it is likely that one of the fillers in Levothyroxine is causing an allergic reaction.

Presumably dose was increased from 150mcg to 175mcg? Is the 25mcg tablet the same brand as the 100mcg and 50mcg tablets?

I was on 100 and over three months it was increased to 175. Same brand of tablets. I will try an antihistamine and see how I go. Feel like a walking pillbox at the moment. Thank you for your reply. Much appreciated.

I can’t take levothyroxine as it causes uncontrollable itching from head to toe. I’ve tried 3 or 4 different brands and they all do it. Clemmie
