Hi, I'm newly diagnosed. Please somebody can share with me some important information about this disease? My thyroid gland is still working

My thyroid gland is still working ok. I mean my hormone levels are still ok, but my doctor says obviously it is gonna change. As anyone here knows. But I mean what can I do? My throat hurts really bad, and the pressure the thyroid puts on the throat is increasing quickly, the swelling has increased too much from one day to another. Is this normal? Please can somebody help me with advice, information? I know there are worse cases here, but perhaps can somebody help me to prevent more terrible symptoms. My doctor have told me nothing. The only thing, I've found in internet is that Selenium is good, but I suppose not in a natural form, nuts or something ¿? Should I use a supplement? Is it possible to get remission at this stage of the disease? How?.

I would appreciate somebody to give me some information...

Hi Criss, What was the diagnosis? Hormone levels when tested against a range of norms can be very wide. Have you looked at any of that? The doctor may say it's normal but it may not be right for you. Also, almost all thyroid problems are due to an autoimmune disease called Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Something is making your immune system turn on your thyroid gland and often that something is gluten. Usually this has been going on for a long time before you decided to look into it.....even years for some but still it is possible to go into remission if you do some research and take steps. You can look at the headings on this website and find answers. stopthethyroidmadness.com/t...

Hi, Heloise. Thank you for taking the time to answer my post. The diagnosis was Hashimoto. I have an antibody. They didn't told me exactly which antibody, I'm gonna ask to my doctor. Neither I know the ranges. They didn't let me to see the actual results. My doctor just said, we just need to wait till you gland start not to produce correctly the hormone to medicate you, with the artificial thyroid hormone and that's all. They didn't ask me to do an ultrasound. But I don't know if it is necessary because all the hurting, and quickly swelling of the throat in this days. A week ago, I didn't even know I had anything in my neck, because it was not swollen, or at least, it didn't show. On the other hand, I have other strange symptoms too, that I don't know if they are related with Hashimoto. The bone of my chin is growing, in the left side. When you feel my chin you can tell there is a deformation, that is making that part wider and more square, compare to the other part of the chin that is rounder. Actually they don't know if it's the bone that is growing, or something else. When I touch it, it hurts a little and it beats. They told to test my calcium and phosphate levels. I am sorry to give you all, so much overwhelming information. You know, I live in South America. And I attend to the public hospital here. And they give me so little information.

Goodness, this happened so quickly I can't believe they are not immediately looking into it. I'm not a medical person but I'm wondering if you have a salivary stone. I'm not too familiar with those but I think it may be a possibility since they are checking your minerals. Do you drink a lot of soda?

Not really. But thank you so much Heloise.

My friend had one and was told to suck on lemon drops, I would think the lemon itself might be better. Whatever makes the glands produce saliva may help is the object I guess.

Heloise, thank you for the link .I think because of the antibodies they found in my blood. I definitely have Hashimoto so am trying to educate me through internet. But besides that I do have various symptoms, even some I didn't find in any hashimoto description of symptoms, for example my belly is swollen since 2 years ago, with no apparent cause. I mean it gets a little less swollen in early in the morning when I wake up but then i eat a little and it resembles one of a pregnant woman till the end of the day. They never found what was the cause. Maybe it contributed to the Hashimoto´s activation. This all was before all the Hashimoto story. What amaze me is how hashimoto is quickly affecting me, the lump in my throat has gotten big in just a few days, my thyroid is very swollen. I can not even speak normally. Have to make pauses and it's hard to swallow saliva. I wonder, is this normal? so quickly, so painful. In this early stage of the disease? If I can't take any medication yet, that's what my doctor said. So what then?

Greetings Heloise, you seem such a nice person.

All of us here know how ineffective the medical profession is with Hashimoto or even any other chronic disease so feel it is urgent that we help people who won't be getting any unless you go to a naturopath. I do have another idea about your bloating. There is something called SIBO which stands for small intestine bacterial overgrowth. This can happen when your stomach does not digest food well and that is because your condition causes inflammation of the gut. Get some digestive enzymes from the vitamin store and take with meals. Also, I found unfiltered apple cider vinegar very effective as it will block some starch and kill some bacteria. Take a teaspoon before meals. You can dilute it if you wish.

There are some herbs that can also help with that like olive leaf and oregano oil capsules. Also if you have had this problem for a while you are most likely deficient in a lot of nutrients. B vitamins are very important so get a complex B, some vitamin C and magnesium, vitamin D3 and fish oil. I know it's a lot but start with something and slowly add.

I really think you should seek another doctor and opinion. Are you in the NHS? I'm in the U.S. so I want you to post again if you are in the UK and ask about changing GPs. I don't like the speed with which you are getting this problem. I think there is something more going on. You might have to be a little pushy so take someone with you to assist.

This man is great and has many other videos.

If your goitre (the lump that is pressing on your throat/airway) is increasing quickly and causing you to feel uncomfortable it needs investigation. An ultrasound scan or whatever. Are you in US or UK. If in UK and no joy with GP go to A&E. I am sure others will make suggestions.

Am afraid A&E will only Refer you to a consultant if its an emergency otherwise they will refer the matter back to your GP. So dont expect too much if tou go down the A&E route.

What is your GP proposing to do? Have they referred you on?

Hi there when i was first diagnosed with thyroid disease hyper and hashis as my neck was swollen and tender and all sorts of other symptons, i too had 2 visits to hospital and was told anyrhing thyroid related they wont deal with as its your consultant or gp. I was even taken by ambulance aswell and stayed in overnight for checks and still they said we cannot do anything- i thought the same that they would do a ultrasound on my neck sooner but no-i still had to wait 2 months for that, they told me if im still getting 98%oxygen they are happy.

I have nodules and a isthmus thickening andvim sure this irritates my trachea and im still yet to discuss this wirh endo on 2nd jan.

You do need to be referred, get your gp to feel your neck and also tell him your symptons aswell- mine were a cough, swallowing issues and uncomfortable feeling on my windpipe. Hashimotos is not great and you can feel quite dire with it.x
