A personal herbal based result

I asked for advice here a few months ago for various symptoms of feeling really cold all the time, and very fatigued every afternoon, sleeping badly, weight , etc. I had also had pre-eclampsia in childbirth, sometimes a pre-determinant of Thyroid problems in later life.

As advised I did ask the doctor to arrange the tests recommended . Four blood samples were taken, On the phone the doctor told me everything was normal , even the thyroid tests. However on actually collecting the results...no thyroid tests were done ...just the folate, vitamins, cholesterol's etc. unbelievable ! I wasn’t being taken seriously.

In any event I dislike the thought of being dependent on pharma medication if at all possible, and I was thinking about paying for private testing....but in the meantime have been reading and researching, and decided to try the herbs Ashwangda and Rhodiola Rosea These are both ‘adaptogenic herbs which work to bring the body back into balance.

Ashwagandha is used in Ayurvedic medicine, and has been known to help with both Hyper and Hypo thyroid issues, and been shown to support a sluggish thyroid for people diagnosed with Hashimotos, to also treat adrenal fatigue, by balancing the hormones and helping to bring the body back to homeostasis

It has worked for me, and I have great improvement on all symptoms. although both of these adaptogenic herbs can be purchased separately, I take them in combination marketed as ‘Real Focus’ supplied by Good Health Naturally (online) With supplements it’s worth remembering you get what you pay for.

My symptoms were not nearly as bad as most on this site, and there is no proof that I was actually suffering thyroid symptoms....but these herbs certainly help with anxiety, sleep and fatigue, by balancing the physical and emotional systems.

Do your own research and see if this may help you ...wishing you better health

'been shown to support a sluggish thyroid for people diagnosed with Hashimoto's'

If you have Hashi's, you don't just have a 'sluggish' thyroid, there's actually nothing wrong with your thyroid, except that it's under attack from your immune system and being slowly destroyed. I don't see how a bunch of herbs can help with that. With adaptogens, for 'support' read 'stimulate', and there's nothing worse for an ailing gland than stimulating, just makes it burn out faster. If it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is!

However, it really would be a good idea to have all the relevant tests before taking anything - and certainly before proclaiming that these things work! - just to know exactly what you're dealing with.

Ashwagandha may increase T4 and aid conversion but according to STTM 2 should only be taken for a short time as long run safety is not known and. large doses can cause stomach problems. Abnormal heart rhythms is also mentioned.

For full evaluation you ideally need TSH, FT4, FT3, TT4, TPO and TG antibodies, plus vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested

As you GP was unhelpful

Private tests are available

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Medichecks Thyroid plus ultra vitamin or Blue Horizon Thyroid plus eleven are the most popular choice. DIY finger prick test or option to pay extra for private blood draw. Both companies often have money off offers.

All thyroid tests should be done as early as possible in morning and fasting. This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results
