Hi - after my post last week about my blood test results a few people suggested a strictly gluten free diet is sometimes beneficial so I took the plunge and have been gluten free for 5 days. However, every so often I get awful pains in my stomach, maybe an hour or so after eating so bit worried! Has anyone experienced this?!
Gluten Free - Graves and Hypo: Hi - after my post... - Thyroid UK
Gluten Free - Graves and Hypo
Louiseh75,
It's not unusual to get 'withdrawal symptoms' after giving up gluten, coffee, dairy etc. but they shouldn't last beyond a week or two.
Hi I’m the same! I tried gluten free for a while but couldn’t keep it up.. just not organised enough. I know exactly what you mean I get severe discomfort (down my left side)
after a big meal but I’m fine with a small meal. I’ve got graves and am on block and replace. My TSH is at the very top end of normal. I m ok but it’s definitely a rollercoaster ride!
Yep - pain and discomfort down the left hand side - not good!! Have to try something though. Started as hyper, then RAI, then hypo. Antibodies quite high at mo so trying to get them under control. Rollercoaster as you say!
437jd,
If TSH is top end of normal your dosing needs adjusting. Either Carbimzole should be reduced or Levothyroxine dose increased. TSH 1-2 is probably a good guide for hyperthyroid patients on B&R.
Hi it is normal to experience pain, bloating, wind, headaches etc when excluding gluten, i am now past that stage a little now,it does get better but i have to stick with being gluten free and soya free as im celiac and hashis. Stick with it and you will benefit.😊
Thanks for the reply. So far - apart from the pain! - it has been ok and I haven't been craving any sugar or anything which is great. I'll stick at it and hope things improve soon! 😊
It will improve and i too crave the occasional sugary treat and there are plenty of cakes and biccies that are gluten free m&s do some lovely desserts etc- no need to go without.x good luck and also be careful when eating out. Bye for now.
