Hello everyone

I am underactive and have been on 125mcg levo for some time now. They say my levels are good but i do have endo next week.

Anyway, i have an ongoing issue with very watery/streaming eyes. Does anyone have an idea about this? Have it as well?

Thank you in advance.

Susi x

Demetria,

I would see an optician and mention that you are hypothyroid and ask whether it is possibly due to thyroid eye disease.

been down that road too, opticians find no vision issues, muscle strength tests need to be carried out if there are any available to check the eye muscle.

Demitria, always get a print-out of your blood test results. Never depend on the professionals to know best.

Get a print-out with the ranges of your last test and post for comments. Ideally your TSH should be 1 or below with the FT4 and FT3 (these are rarely tested) . The most important is that you should feel well and energetic.

If you've not had B12, Vit D, iron, ferritin and folate tested you should get these too.

You have to be checked to make sure you don't have Thyroid Eye Disease.

no amount of suppliments help. Whilst we feed the suppliers of such alternative solutions, keeping endos and opticians in work we sit here much the same in health but rich in suppliments and poor in pocket and health.

You need to see someone who is an expert in eye diseases - like Moorfields. There is one in my local NHS Hospital so there must be others I think.

My husband didn't need an appointment - they accept 'walk-ins'. Eyes are to precious and I don't know why GP hasn't referred you to a more expert before.

Agree with Clutter. Make an appointment to see a good optician. You might well find you have dry eyes.

When my eyes were really dry they watered all the time. Sounds weird I know but that happens. I use preservative free eye drops (HycoSan or Hyabak) all the time now, lots of times throughout the day and that solves the problem.

I have Graves Disease and it has definitely affected my eyes in lots of different ways but I don’t have thyroid eye disease.

Hi. I too have dry eye. I had it checked at the opticians. Very easily done with some yellow dye that shows the quality of the tears you are producing.

My eyes were running constantly. I could cope with the running but the gritty feeling was very uncomfortable.

I started with eye drops but very quickly latched on to Carbomer Gel. Thicker and more effective than the drops. Search for Generic Carbomer Gel and you can find it for about £2.50p. I order 4 at a time to make the postage more acceptable. Same for 4 as it is for 1 in a lot of places.

Hope you get sorted soon.

have the muscles around your eyes lost strength, levo causes muscle weakness in some patients

Don't waste anymore on these things, they don't work. Our bodies are not working properly and T4 is supposed to fix us, it doesn't fix us all. Would you put a plaster on a gapping wound. Sorry but only our need for hope keeps us from buying more and more remedies. Please let us stop this .

I will mention this all to the endo next week as well.

One of my friends had this problem and found that her tear ducts were blocking up. She had a minor op to open them again. As well as producing tears they are there for draining too.
