Hi I recently went for an eye test and I didn’t pass the pressure test so I’m being sent to a specialist. I am hypothyroid and still undermedicated my question is could the thyroid have caused this I am getting a lot of pressure headaches and tinnitus.

I am not medically qualified but I'd say 'yes' it could be due to being under-dosed.

If you are hypothyroid and on treatment, you should have none of the following symptoms.

I suffered with tinnitus, headaches, dizziness, blocked ears, blurred vision I also felt spaced out a lot. The gp sent me for various tests which cost the nhs money they really didn’t need to spend. I was borderline (as they called it). I asked for low dose thyroid meds and it made so much difference!! I wish they’d had just listened to me in the first place! X

Tinnitus can be due to low B12

Very common to have low B12, folate, ferritin and vitamin D when hypo

Have these been tested?

Yes all tested B12 567 (190-900)

Ferritin 81 (10-200)

Bit D 73 (50-200)

Having folate done in couple days

I’m taking vit d supplement and a b complex

Vitamin D may be better around 100nmol. Many of us find that helps

How much vitamin D are you taking? Are you also taking magnesium and vitamin K2?

Ferritin is ok, eating liver once a week will help keep it at good level

Did you remember to stop vitamin B complex 3-5 days before blood test (to be on the safe side)

vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before any blood tests, as biotin can falsely affect test results

You might find also adding a daily B12 sublingual lozenge helps too

50mcg of vitamin D is 2000iu

With thyroid disease that level is more like a maintenance dose

You could double it for 2 months and retest

Then take 2000iu as maintenance dose. Retest twice yearly

Vitamindtest.org.uk - £28 postal kit

Vitamin K2 - there are lots of different ones.

I tend to swop around. Just bought these

Previously bought Solgar

Magnesium, lots of us use calm vitality magnesium powder. It's cheap and easy to use. Can start very low dose and increase slowly. Can cause diarrhoea if take too much.....also therefore good for constipation. Best taken in afternoon or evening, at least 4 hours away from Levo.

Taking Levo at bedtime can be more effective

flo-jo100,

There have been many mentions of glaucoma here.

This is one of many general links to information about glaucoma:

The pressure inside your eye is linked to glaucoma. When you see your specialist they will check all your pressures again and probably do an OCT X-ray of the inside of your eye to see what is going on, OCT doesn’t hurt, you just put your chin on the machine, look where you are told and don't blink when you are told not to and it pumps out a scan of inside your eye.

High pressure in your eye is unlikely to be due to your thyroid or your pressure headaches although you might get pressure headaches if you are really stressed.
