Herbalife shake : Hi everyone I'm 280 pounds and... - Thyroid UK
Herbalife shake
In my view there is no point in trying any diet until your Hypothyroidism has been dealt with.
Are you on levothyroxine and what are you TSH, T4 and T3 results (with ranges in brackets)? Do you have anti bodies, how are your iron, ferritin, folate, Vit B12 and Vit D levels?
Until all of theses are optimal and your medication optimal your metabolism will not begin to function properly.
The only "diet" I am on is Gluten free because of antibodies and I avoid other foods due to diagnosed intolerances.
There is a big difference between "diet" and nutrition, neither of which most medics seem to have any clue about. There is a lot to learn if you want to improve your health and get back to a healthy weight. I would not waste my money on "shakes"
Post your thyroid results and vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 on new post
Members can advise if you are on adequate Levothyroxine
If you have high antibodies then gluten free very likely to help
You really would be shooting yourself in the foot, if you do that! You have not put on weight because you eat too much, or eat the wrong things. You have put on weight because you are hypo.
Herbalife shakes contain soy protein. Soy is not food. Unfermented soy - as in soy protein - can have all sorts of devastating effects on the human body, but the worst thing it does to hypos, is stop the cells absorbing T3, effectively making you more hypo, and therefore making you put on weight.
Herbalife shakes are not even a balanced diet, because they do not contain enough fat. You need to consume fat to be healthy - good fat, as in butter and olive oil. Low/no-fat diets can lead to all sorts of health problems, including depression. The fat they do contain comes from rapeseed oil, which is one of the very worst fats.
They pertain to contain vitamins, but the form of the vitamins they contain are not the best. For example, cyanocobalamin and folic acid, which your body will not be able to absorb. They also contain too much calcium, and Carrageenan, which is a very bad thing to consume on a regular basis, leading to stomach upsets, etc.
As crimple said, you don't want to be 'dieting', anyway. What you want is good, wholesome, nourishing food - quite the opposite of Herbalife shakes! Plenty of good protein and good fat, fresh fruit and veg, some carbs, not too much fibre, and don't skimp on the salt! There is no salt in Herbalife shakes. You could, potentially, make yourself very ill ingesting that stuff!
Thank you for your reply. ..I will take it in consideration and not take it....
Now u seem to know alot about the hypothyroidism. ..let me ask you...
If I would be doing bodybuilding. .what kind of shake or protein would I take..?
You see..I want to lose weight and lift weights to shape my body...I need to lose 80 pds for my daughter's party in sept.2018...
You'd probably be better off trying a ketogenic diet and not a very low calorie diet which will make you worse plus you need to eat real food, not meal replacement shakes.
Thanksfor your reply. ..
