Hi! I'm new here! My problem is I shake inside and I am not in the least bit nervous. I do have low blood pressure can that cause it? It never stops!!!
Why Do I Shake Inside?: Hi! I'm new here! My... - Thyroid UK
Why Do I Shake Inside?
As Marz suggests, your adrenals have to compensate for what you lack in thyroid metabolism. Your body has to run on something and the adrenals offer adrenaline and epinephrine.
{ Epinephrine, also called adrenaline, hormone that is secreted mainly by the medulla of the adrenal glands and that functions primarily to increase cardiac output and to raise glucose levels in the blood. Epinephrine typically is released during acute stress, and its stimulatory effects fortify and prepare an individual for either “fight or flight” (see fight-or-flight response). Epinephrine is closely related in structure to norepinephrine, differing only in the presence of a methyl group on the nitrogen side chain. In both substances, the amine (nitrogen-containing) group is attached to a catechol group (a benzene ring with two hydroxyl groups)—a structure unique to the catecholamines. Both substances are key stimulatory components of the sympathetic nervous system (part of the autonomic nervous system), hence their pharmacological classification as sympathomimetic agents.

You really want to get OUT of the sympathetic nervous system if you want to be well.
Thanks for your excellent explanation Heloise. I too have internal tremors all through the night each time I wake - particularly if woken suddenly. Even when waking first thing after a good nights sleep - like now - I am trembling, vibrating - engine “idling”.
For myself - my thyroid bloods haven’t been checked for 9 months or more. I’m on 125mcg Levo for Hashis and various others for Sjögren’s. I have small fibre neuropathy everywhere and I’m guessing this is the autonomic dysfunction which attends it - just as you say. My B12 and others such as ferritin are all good - only thing that shows with me is raised CRP and PV.
I’m not a particularly anxious person 24/7 so I dont think this accounts for it with me but my Sjögren’s SFN and other neuro features are flaring and I’ve had displays of low level small vessel Vasculitis with lots of peripheral pain so am minded that it’s the autonomic dysfunction for me. Also I have an orthostatic tremor - like a windmill In my legs if I stand for long. So I carry a fisherman’s seat perching stick with me all the time.
Apart from drinking lot of water and trying not to let my BP swing about by keeping salt levels okay (salt cravings) I just have to go with it when I’m “idling” madly as I am presently. For me it’s a resting tremor that tells me to rest urgently - wherever I am or whatever I’m doing.
Yes it was well explained by Heloise👍 , but you too gave a great description on how it is for you, It struck a cord with me as I get the trembles on waking - like you said after a good nights sleep or if I've done too much- that's just like how I suffer, lol I've even had a bizzare jitter in my mouth, crazy, when I see my Endo in September I was going to suggest he tests adrenalines but whether he will is another issue!!
Gypsy like everyone else has said its important you send in your thyroid results so people can advise you.🌟🌟
That was an amazing analysis, Twitchytoes. Is that why you selected your "name"? Dr. Walt Stoll figured this out twenty years ago. He advised everyone to use skilled relaxation. This is the body's mechanism for healing and it will heal almost anything if you use his three legged stool; whole foods, aerobic exercize and skilled relaxation. This is based on the book by Herbert Bensen, The Relaxation Response. Also a book by Hans Salye. They use the term mindfulness now but many new age doctors are also recommending it.
The vagus nerve must be a part of all this but basically It starts with the hypothalamus. If you have the discipline, look into biofeedback and there are other devices like cds from Holosync and techniques but you can train yourself without them. If you succeed, you will know when you achieve true relaxation. Many people related that it worked for them when nothing else did.
Do you think this is a dopamine problem? Have you tried anything like Gaba?
We need more information Gypsy. Ask for your latest blood results and post. Also what is your pulse? How long has this been going on for and have you seen your doctor.? Are you on any medication or supplements?
It could be adrenaL As others have suggested and it would be important to optimise thryoid treatment if so.
Do you have any other symptoms? Do you have a thyroid issue?
It could also be magnesium deficiency.
Gypsy. I had a quick google and it suggest that you might have a nerological problem that you need to see your doctor about. Some people however seem to get it for no apparent reason. NHS choices have advised that B12 injections are givien re any neurological symtoms as B12 blood test so unreliable and lack of B12 causes all sorts of nero type issues. See you GP andask to be tested re thyroid, vit D, folate, ferretin and B12. The B12 test is useful because if it does come back low your GP if you are lucky will treat you. However if it is in normal range still get yourself some B12 patches or have a chat with Dr Chandys B12 support group ( google and they might be able to provide some B12 jabs for you). Aso they have a check list of symptoms on thier website worth going through.
Perhaps have a look at ReMag and ReMyte (BotanicaHealth). Dr Carolyn Dean’s podcasts and particularly her book “Magnesium Miracle” are informative. The ReMag is picometer in size and able to get into the cell easily so doesn’t cause loose stools.
Shaking inside and out and low blood pressure where 2 of my symptoms when I was being tested for adrenal insufficiency. However I also had constant nausea, zero appetite, felt very weak and lost a considerable amount of weight(6 stones!)
Do any of those symptoms fit? If they do you need to speak to your gp and at least get a morning cortisol blood test.
Hi Gypsy, Do you have a thyroid condition? This is a common symptom of being overdosed on meds for hypo or hashimotos. I had it and its a strange sensation, but now got meds sorted, its gone.
Gypsy12345:
Heloise is such a wealth of wisdom! When we have to do the “patient heal thyself” - which those of us with thyroid problems do - I would go with the adrenal route first. If you are not on thyroid medication (T3/T4 combination preferably) then - that’s a good place to start. More and more are discovering that they do have thyroid problems. If and when you do discover and treat the thyroid problem ( which is most likely an auto immune problem) - The adrenals were calm down and you will be yourself again.
What ever you do please keep in touch - there are a lot of caring people here and they really want to know and it helps others. Let us know what you find out!
When this happens, what is your blood pressure like? If the blood pressure is very low or very narrow (top and bottom numbers too close together), that might be the problem.
Thank you all so much!!! I see the DR soon and will make him take the time to answer my questions!!!! Will let you know how it goes!!!! Thanks Again!!!!
I have no idea why causes this but I also wake up trembling when I’m worse. I have Hashimotos and, for me, it’s definitely thyroid related
