Good morning Farhan,

You have a dysfunction of your thyroid gland which isn't producing the amount of thyroid hormones your body needs to function properly but because you have Hashimoto's sometimes you feel hyperthyroid due to the rush of antibodies but you don't have hyperthyoidism..

You have the commonest form of hypothyroidism called Hashimoto's and it is diagnosed if we have thyroid antibodies in our blood. These attack thyroid glands until the person is hypothyroid and this is a life-long condition and you must take thyroid hormones for the rest of your life.

The dose of levothyroxine must be increased every six weeks by 25mcg of levothyroxine until your TSH comes to 1 or lower. Your Free T4 and Free T3 must be towards the top of the range. I shall give you a link and you can read about both of the above tests:-

All blood tests for thyroid hormones have to be the very earliest, fasting and allow a gap of 24 hours between your last dose and the test and take afterwards. This gives the best result.

Going gluten-free can help reduce the thyroid antibodies. It is the antibodies which attack your thyroid gland and they wax and wane and sometimes you may feel hyper when too many hormones are released.

When you post blood test results you have to also put the ranges. These are in brackets after the result.

Thyroid hormone replacement - levothyroxine - is for life. You don't just take it for a while and stop, because it isn't a drug, it doesn't cure anything. What it does is replacement the hormones your thyroid can no-longer make. Your thyroid will never get better, so you will have to take the levo every day for the rest of your life.
