Hello, seeing my new Doctor for the second time tomorrow and have my packet of questions ready! I just wanted ask everyone "What test should I ask for along with testing the RT3, Antibodies, Cortisol, Ferritin. Just want to stop the old stand by's TSH and T4 only. Thanks all!!
What test should be done?: Hello, seeing my new... - Thyroid UK
What test should be done?
Welcome to the forum, DarcyJ.
Most GP practices will only test TSH and FT4. FT3 is rarely tested in primary practice unless TSH is suppressed <0.03. FT3 is tested to determine hyperthyroidism not low FT3 in hypothyroid patients. If your TSH is high FT3 will be low anyway.
Ask your GP to test thyroid peroxidase and thyroglobulin antibodies. Be aware that the latter is rarely tested in primary care.
rT3 isn't tested on the NHS.
If you think you have adrenal problems ask your GP to test cortisol.
Hypothyroid patients are often low/deficient in ferritin, vitamin D, B12 and folate. Ask your GP if s/he will test.
Thanks Clutter! I fear it's going to be like talking to the wall...but I'm ready! And if she won't test, I'll be looking for a new doctor. So very tired of following Dr. orders even when I still feel like crude! Love this site!!
Yep! Talking to the wall!! So very tired of fighting to be taken seriously about how I'm feeling. Asked to have a full panel of test done.....agree to do a T3 but said antibodies and others weren't really necessary. Then suggested putting me on an antidepressant and getting a sleep study done! So I'm looking for a new doctor!! Shouldn't be this hard!
Good luck at the doctors appointment
