Hi I am a newbie. I have high thyroid peroxidase antibodies of 672 (<34) TSH 22 (0.2 - 4.2)
FREE T4 10.4 (12 - 22)
and having symptoms of carpal tunnel, joint pain, dry skin, hard stool, crippling fatigue, dizziness. Is it likely I need thyroid medication? Thank you

I'm sorry you are suffering with your symptoms. If you have other results then do post them. Other far more experienced "angels" on this fab forum will advise.
It does sound like your thyroid needs addressing.
It's sounds like you are in need of vitamins & going gluten free, in which case Seaside Susie can advise & signpost you, as she so wonderfully did for me.
All the very best to you & stick with this great forum, you'll get the help you need, don't worry 😉
You are extremely hypothyroid and with raised antibodies you have hashimoto’s disease an autoimmune condition where the thyroid gland is attacked and destroyed. You need to start treatment with levothyroxine, normally the starting dose is 50mcg unless you are elderly or have a heart condition when the starting dose can be 25mcg. It takes 4-6 weeks for levels of levothyroxine to reach a stable level then you have repeat bloods and the dose increased in 25-50mcg increments until TSH is in the lower part of the range. It is also important to get ferritin, folate vit b12 and vit d tested and supplement if necessary as these help the body utilise the hormone correctly.
For many people once their levels improve the hypothyroid symptoms, carpal tunnel, dry skin, joint pain, constipation and fatigue reduce or disappear. There is also a connection to gluten and reducing the antibodies and hopefully someone else can advise on that front. It can take some months for treatment to be effective. Good luck
On those figures your gp is grossly negligent, have you been offered any supplements ? Please go and see another gp in the practice they are in breach of national guidelines for hypothyroid also vit b12 (you may need injections and investigations for pernicious anaemia) and iron and folate and vit d. You must feel dreadful.
The pernicious anaemia/B12 deficiency forum will be able to provide more info regarding folate and B12. It may be useful to have a blood test for instrinsic factor antibodies and then your GP needs to start you on a loading dose of vitamin B12....sooner than later!
Good luck
Hi I’m new to this site too. I have a Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis found on ultrasound and confirmed with TPO antibodies of more than 1300. I had a diagnostic left Thyroid lobectomy in Sept for a symptomatic nodule that was benign and started on 50mcg of Levothyroxine My latest blood results show that I am very Hypothyroid TSH is 81 T4 is 7 and T3 is 2. My Levothyroxine has benn increased to 125mcg.
It looks from your results that you do need Levothyroxine. Speak to your GP
