Molesnail,

Your results are good.

A low TSH & FT4 result are normal when medicating T3 as the hypothalamus/pituitary senses this and the body determines that no additional thyroid hormone is needed (so no TSH is released).

How are you feeling now ? ? ...

I feel fine really my legs are a little bit stiff and I am going hot and cold 2 or 3 times a day. it’s just one of the drs mentioned I could be at risk of osteoporosis if I was over medicated. Another dr said I might need to reduce my NDT if I had hyper symptoms. When I looked at the results I ignored the TSH as I have read that this can go very low and it’s not really important. I also read that T4andT3 should be optimal, so wondered about the low t4 result in particular. Thanks for replying.

Moleskin,

I also medicate NDT & most doctors don't understand our blood test results will present differently than when medicating T4 alone. Your low T4 is fine (as explained above) and as long as T3 levels are not over range we are not at risk of osteoporosis.

We are at risk of osteoporosis if we over medicate because bone resorption exceeds bone production with a net loss of bone mass. Bone is continuously broken down and replaced by cells known as osteoclasts and osteoblasts and each cycle of bone “turnover” usually takes about 200 days. Excess thyroid hormone will hasten this rate.

But we are also at risk of osteoporosis if we have low thyroid hormones because both bone resorption and production decrease, resulting in fragile brittle bones. This is what happened to me but with the introduction of T3 things are improving year upon year.

With regard to the "going hot & cold", are you splitting your NDT daily dose ? ? And looking back at previous posts, vits//iron look ok but there is no mention of Vit D ? ? ....

Also have you looked into adrenal health ? ? ... Did you ever do the saliva cortisol test ? ? ... Cortisol is one of the hormones released by the adrenals during the stress response. Prolonged cortisol elevations caused by low thyroid hormone will decrease the liver’s ability to clear excess oestrogens from the blood which increases levels of TBG (thyroid binding globulin), the proteins that thyroid hormone is attached to as it’s transported through the body.

When thyroid hormone is bound to TBG, it is inactive as it must be cleaved from TBG to become “free-fraction” before it can activate cellular receptors. Therefore, we can have excellent thyroid hormone test results but still feel hypothyroid symptoms because the thyroid hormone is inactive & unable to give us well being.

Thanks for your detailed response. I do split my doses and have started taking vitamin D since October I take adrenal cortex supplement, but have not done the cortisol test yet. I feel ok really I just don’t want to cause problems for myself. My T3 is fine so I hope I’m ok. Once again a big Ta .
