What dose of Levo and T3 were you taking before your T3 was stopped?

in reply tohumanbean

75 t4 /10 t3

So your doctor has taken away 10mcg T3 and replaced it with 12.5 mcg Levo.

There are so many things wrong with this.

For a start you've had your dose of thyroid meds reduced by the equivalent of 17.5mcg Levo. The removal of your T3 will make you feel awful. Reducing your dose overall will probably make you feel even worse. I'm going to guess and assume he has done this because your TSH was under the range and your Free T4 was over the range. But he seems to have completely ignored your very low in range Free T3.

What reason did he give you for removing your Free T3?

In your shoes I would suggest trying NDT, but either you would have to find an endo or doctor who would prescribe it for you privately, on a named patient basis, or you would have to buy your own online without a prescription. I'd prefer to buy my own to be honest.

Your doctor has done you no favours at all, whatever excuse he made up to fob you off.

in reply tohumanbean

He said they are not allowed to perscribe it anymore

in reply tohumanbean

Sorry he also said my results are satisfactory but I can't understand why ths is under

in reply to

Hi Wildgeese, You aren't taking a very high dose of T4 and yet your are over range as you can see. Usually if you had been taking T3, your FT4 will go down which is all right but yours is still high. hmmmm And your FT3 is too low to feel well. The FT3 is the active form of thyroid hormone and needs to be well over 5.

You probably need the T3 because it doesn't look like you are converting well at all and that can be due to low ferritin or high cortisol or also low cortisol.

Who stopped T3 and why. Was it prescribed by endo? If so was it same one that stopped it

Read this guideline

british-thyroid-association...

And this - page 3 and 5-8

patients-association.org.uk...

Print out and take to GP if you want T3 back

Your FT4 is now too high and your FT3 too low

Ask GP to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

When T3 is stopped Vitamin levels often crash extremely low then stops thyroid hormones working

About 90% of all hypothyroidism in Uk is due to Hashimoto's

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

But don't be surprised that GP or endo never mention gut, gluten or low vitamins. Hashimoto's is very poorly understood

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, lower antibodies slowly and help heal gut.

Oh I also take nexium two a day for hiatus hernia

SlowDragon profile image
SlowDragonAdministrator in reply to

Nexium is a proton pump inhibitor, these medications lower vitamins but B12 and magnesium especially

Low vitamins stop thyroid hormones working

You feel hypo and hyper at same time, blood test suggest you are over treated and dose gets reduced further

Wildgeese,

Welcome to our forum.

It is worrying having T3 withdrawn & has happened to many members. When did this happen & how are you feeling ? ? ..

Your T3 levels are low & T4 high. If you are feeling hypothyroid, this indicates your meds are too low or not working. Many need additional T3 added to T4 (Levo) in order to achieve well being but there are other factors that might reduce the activity of your Levo working.

Are you thyroid antibodies elevated ?

Are you optimal in Vit B12, Folate, Vit D and Ferritin - all required in many for good thyroid hormone synthesis. Do you have gut issues (possibly caused by low thyroid hormone) that might impair nutrient/iron absorption ? ? ..

in reply toradd

Yes my antibodies were around the 600 mark . I feel so exhausted but cold then hot I've also put weight on I've went from 9stone 3 last year to 10.stone 4 weighed last week by nurse . Just don't feel right at all I take vit d vit b vit c milk thistle 14mg ferrous fumerate daily

Can't understand why ths is 0.5 would that not get high

There is a genetic test for a gene mutation that stops people from being able to convert FT4 to Ft3. I think it's called D102. If you have that mutation then they can't refuse you T3.

TaraJR profile image
TaraJR in reply toeeng

I'm afraid that they can refuse... I bought the DIO2 test, and it showed I do have the defective gene. But my hospital refused to reinstate my T3. I've bought some T3 now from Mexico, and will probably appeal to my CCG.

That's dreadful.

Yep! But now the BTA response to the NHSE consultation has been published, I have more ammunition for an appeal!
