Blood tests by GP

I have my first appointment with a consultant on Friday and so I’ve got a copy of my blood results. They are as follows:

1st test: Serum free T4 - 26.8 (10.00 ro 18.70pmo/L)

Serum TSH - less than 0.05 (0.30 to 5.00miu/L)

2nd test: Serum free T4 - 21.9

Serum TSH - less than 0.05

3rd test: Serum free T4 - 16.4

Serum TSH - 0.16

The tests are all 3 to 4 weeks apart. I have been taking 15mg of carbimazole daily since diagnosis.

I have a list of the tests I need to ask the endocrinologist for but just wondered if anyone had a view on these results

Thanks in advance

Michaeladell,

TSH 0.16 is no longer suppressed and T4 16.4 is usually around mid-range but I would have to see lab ref range to be sure. I think endo may reduce dose dose from 15mg to prevent you becoming hypo.

The lab ranges are the same as those in the first test

Michaeladell,

Ah, okay then, FT4 16.4 is still quite high in range so I expect endo will probably leave you on 15mg for a while longer.

Thanks. Obviously I need other tests done as well. Hoping I can come off the beta blockers though

Michaeladell,

If your heart rate is calm now thyroid level is lower you can come of beta blockers.
