Hi, for anyone taking Tiromel T3, is it best to swallow it or take it sublingual?

Thank you 🙂

All thyroid hormone tablets are designed to be swallowed - levo, NDT, T3. They should not be taken sublingually. :)

I always crunch my T3 up a bit before swallowing. Is this a good/bad idea?

My personal opinion is that it's a bad thing, because bits can stay stuck in your teeth. So, if you clean your teeth or eat, that will affect your absorption. Why would you want to crunch it up, anyway?

I guess the thought was to aid absorption (like chewing your food). Will try taking them whole and see if it makes any difference.

Defectivegoose,

It should be swallowed with plenty of water.

Liothyronine is very well absorbed (95%) in the foregut within an hour. It will be absorbed sublingually but its better to swallow it so as to slow down absorption a little.

Thank you, that makes sense

The molecules in thyroid hormones are too large to be absorbed by the tongue, therefore it should be swallowed with one full glass of water.

I have always let mine dissolve under the tongue and I read recently that Mary Shomon recommends this also. I've never had any ill effects.

I’ve always took my NDT under my tongue but had no idea about T3. Do you take your T3 under your tongue as well?

Hi, yes I take my t3 under my tongue. I have taken it this way since I started about 4 or 5 years ago with no ill effects.
