Have been on Levothyroxine for 25 years and have my bloods checked every 12 months but recently have had very bad menopause symptoms so was told by prescribing nurse to take Mmagnesium Cilicate . Did that but at no point was I told not to take it at the same time as the Magnesium. After 2 weeks I am back to square 1, really ill and will having a strong word with the doctor the only time can get to see him is in 2 weeks they rang me urgently as at the time I saw the nurse she also did a thyroid test. It's only after talking to my chemist did she warn me not to take Thyroxine and Magnesium together. How long does it take for the symptoms to go away. I'm now on 150 mcg Levothyroxine.

Could take quite a while, but I don't know exactly, because I've never known anyone who did that exact same thing. How long were you taking them together?
As a general rule, thyroid hormones must be taken alone, on an empty stomach, leaving at least an hour before eating or drinking anything other than water; two hours before other medication or supplements; four hours before iron, calcium, vit D or oestrogen; and six hours before magnesium.
I would imagine that the nurse either assumed you knew that, or didn't know herself.
Nearly 2 and a half weeks, now take my levothyroxine at night and the other pills in the morning to allow plenty of time between them.
Not what you're looking for?
