Can a virus affect thyroid ?

Hi thyroid community

I have been doing good on natural dessicated thyroid this year, but in the last few weeks I've been ill with sinusitis, this was gone after 2 weeks, but I'm now into my 4th week off sick from work, I'm so exhausted, needing to go back to bed in the day etc and just not picking up. Also some days feeling little better, but then worse again, not a normal recovery from illness. I've got no other virus symptoms now and am due to have blood test next week, but my question is....can your thyroid be affected by having a virus? Am wondering if I've gone more hypo?

I think viruses will affect the thyroid as they do with the rest of the body.

My untreated hypo symptoms became worse when I contracted chicken pox 10 years ago. I didn't seem to recover, & still felt exhausted after a year when I was misdiagnosed with FM.

I've suffered with regular sinusitis since my teens, , starting a few years after my hypo symptoms. Mine is often triggered by bacteria if I inhale dust, soil being the worst thing to affect me. Last year was the worst incidence as I needed antibiotics followed by months using a steroid nasal spray. I used sterimar this summer & found it preventative aside from a few weeks on the steroid spray after dust inhalation. I've seen some natural ones made by Weleda & Vogels, so intend to try these in case of another flare up.

I have had bad sinus problems since I was 8 years old I am now 71.

Two major ops on my sinus helped but if I get an infection it goes straight there again.

I was offered antibiotics this year also steroid spray. I actually bought them but never used them. Now I use a natural cure I found on the internet. I sniff Olbas oil, one dessert spoon of honey first thing and hold something warm to my sinuses throughout the day and It works well.

I would never sniff steroid spray into the sinunses they are very close to the brain.
