hi all again ive just had a call from my clueless endo, as you guys know i am hashis but my results are still showing hyper bloods, i take one 20mgs of carbi a day, he has ignored the hashis and is still insisting my bloods are hyper and not a hashi's swing. Also he tested for graves and when asked he said very likely but their is no definate test for graves, i said thats the tsi results, so have i git high tsi? Waiting patiently at this stage for a answer- he doesnt know?????? What the hell. He is going to be sending results to my gp so i will grab a copy and post tbem on here, i will be seeing a doctor on friday as i want to discuss meds with them.i am stuck because i thought treatment for hashi is levo, originally endo wanted me to start on block and replace for hashis!!!! Mad.
HA; I GIVE UP!! ENDO NOT A CLUE.: hi all again... - Thyroid UK
HA; I GIVE UP!! ENDO NOT A CLUE.
Rmichelle,
Treatment for hyperthyroidism (high FT4/FT3 and low TSH) is Carbimazole titration or block and replace with Carbimazole blocking T4 and T3 production and Levothyroxine replacing it.
What is not yet clear until you have TSI results is whether you have Graves and Hashimoto's in tandem. It may not be a Hashi flare causing hyperthyroidism.
If your thyroid levels are high it is not mad to treat you with block and replace.
There is no treatment for Graves or for Hashimoto's. The treatment you receive will be for the hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism caused by Graves or Hashimoto's.
Hi clutter thankyou for responding, endo said its likely i have graves but he could not read result, i just find that complete madness. I will have to wait for results. What if im on a hyper swing? How do they know? I just feel what if i am on a hyper swing and my meds are incorrect and i should be on levo and not carbi. So confused again, i want to see doctor on friday about results and meds. He did mention block and replace at 1st but loomed at results and said titration instead. Dr renee did say that block and replace is just for graves not hashis which ive got.x
Rmichelle,
Transient hyperthyroidism caused by a hyper flare rarely lasts more than 3-4 months so although you have Hashimoto's it may not be the cause of your hyperthyroidism. It's possible you don't have Graves too but you won't know that until you have your TSI results.
Irrespective of what has caused your hyperthyroidism Carbimazole titration or B&R are the correct treatments for hyperthyroidism.
Levothyroxine is treatment for hypothyroidism (low thyroid levels).
As I said earlier, there is no treatment for Graves or Hashimoto's. Treatment is for the hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism caused by Graves or Hashimoto's.
