On which tests are they basing the idea that you are over-medicated? Sounds more like you are under-medicated. 100 mcg is not a huge dose.

What do you mean by 'stress hormone'? Cortisol? I'm sorry to tell you this, but there are no specialists for high cortisol. If you mean an endocrinologist, they only seem to know about diabetes.

It would help people help you if you gave all your results, with the ranges. We need all the information we can get to find out what's going on. Just giving your GP's opinion, isn't helpful. He knows nothing about it, either! :)

They did blood tests that were 23 i think it was tsh thats all i have but im asking for another opinion, thanks for your advise.

Ask for a print-out of your results. It's your legal right to have one, if you live in the UK. You need to know exactly what was tested, and exactly what the results were. If your TSH was 23, you are very hypo, so I don't understand why your doctor told you you were over-medicated.

Hi i got a copy of my blood results and its my t4 level that is 23 and tsh level is 0.08 and mu/l is 0.27-4.2 dont really understand that any one help also my prolactin level is 865 which apparently its over double what it should be .

0.27 - 4.2 is almost certainly the range for the TSH. So, yours is low. I can't tell you about the FT4 because we don't have the range.

However, you still can't know that you are over-medicated because you don't have an FT3 result. Your doctor is just guessing, without that!

Hi

Yes.

I don't know what sw is.

I don't eat processed foods any more so you can't grab a sandwich or a pie for convenience. You have to plan ahead. I eat omelettes with pamesan for breakfast plus orange juice (not from concentrate) & good coffee with a tbls of Collagen powder. It's all about balance.

You can eat meat, good bacon, eggs, fruit, root veg (not cruciferous, ie, cabbage, etc, unless cooked well), plain yogurts, cream, full fat milk, butter & cook with coconut oil, no other oils.

You probably think butter, cheese & full fat milk is fattening but it's processed food that's bad.

Also add small amount of sea/rock salt to food & unrefined sugar you can add to your coffee.

Believe me it's worked for me. My headaches have gone, I'm not weary, my breasts are not as big & my belly fat has gone.

I would love to shout all this from the rooftops to all of you who know that you have a thyroid problem when your blood tests come back "normal".

I found this info online. Check out thyroid diets.

Sorry sw is slimming world, thankyou for taking the time to respond so wot about bread and cereals and crisps and chocolates?

Heather561 profile image
Heather561

Hi

No flour so no bread. No cereals & no nuts or oily fish but you can eat cod, haddock, etc. Crisps I eat occasionally but shouldn't because of the oil they are cooked in. You can have dark chocolate.

It's hard getting your head round this at first but once on it you realise how bad all the other stuff is. It's like cooking before packet food was around & you don't get hungry.

I have a regular evening meal. Gravy I thicken with arrowroot not flour. Mid morning I have a plain yogurt with fruit or cottage cheese with home made apple sauce. I forgot to say, eat more seafood which is rich in iodine. You'll find plenty to eat once started. Slimming World is all about calorie counting & eating fat free packet food like slimming soups. Bad.

Tonight I'm making cottage pie with veg which is a regular meal, not out of a packet.

You'll have more dishes to wash but it's worth it.

I hope this all helps you.

Check Tom Brimeyer out online, that's where I got my help from.

I bought his book, unsure if I was wasting my money but it works. By the way I'm not on any medication.

If your prolactin level is 865 then your GP is being sensible in wanting to investigate further and run some tests. Hypothyroidism can be associated with high levels - and yours is very high. I hope that re-testing in a couple of months shows something clear for you or that has a straightforward treatment path to help you feel better.

Thankyou my prolactin level was the same in january of this year so hopefully il get some answers soon.

If your prolactin level is repeatedly high then your GP is right to follow up on this. Good Luck!

Hi

No problem whatsoever. I've been there so I know how tired you are, the headaches you get & wondering why you don't lose weight because you are careful what you eat.

I'd love to cut corners some times & eat a pie or a sandwich but it's not worth it.

I'm having a boiled egg with some fruit now which is my mid morning snack today. It's all about keeping the blood sugars up.

I could talk about this all day. When I tell people I don't eat such & such, they look at me strangely but it's all about being well.

I hope you find the way.

I said to my doctor last year "you don't know what's wrong with me, do you?" & she said no. I felt very low & started looking online & came across Tom Brimeyer. His book isn't cheap but he's done a lot of research into this after having suffered himself because men also get it.

I would love to promote his book but it would come across as advertising which I don't think is allowed on this site.

Hi

Sympathise re weight just to say since Jan I've lost nearly two stone, SW like you I just lost three pounds in weeks!

I went gluten feee, mostly sugar free, and really started to enjoy food, the odd English breakfast usually without gf bread, as kept it simple and didn't mix carbs and protein mostly

Also healed gut which I think is vital! Otherwise on. Loosing wicket if. It absorbing minerals and vits properly

Also I cut out nightshade family, on advice for a while, just reintroducing some now. Not put weight back and anydigestive probs no longer

Los of luck, no harm in giving it a go as there are lots of nice foods out there It isn't so bad, I just froze GF bread if I felt the need for something on toast, x

Hi, I am a hypothyroidism too...I don't understand why they should reduce you thyroxine if you had no problem over the six years!! And, now all over the sudden you need it reduced. I don't reckon Gps understand fully the thyroid problems. Recently, it happened to me that my Gp reduced my dose but instead of getting better, I thought felt worse...so I had to put myself back on my previous dose, hence felt better. But I told my Gp what I had done...he continued my prescription as before. But then, I had other issues that TSH was below range and T4 levels indicated adequate replacement......I was referred to the endocrinologist but all he said, would not worry about T4 though it seemed higher than before.. He was happy with my dosage of throxine. However, having said that, we are all different so take his advice, if you don't feel better or get worse, ask the GP to get you back on your earlier dosage. But still, you can ask him why decrease after so many years you have been well on that dosage!! I think this endocrine issues are complex and challenging to Gps. Otherwise, you have a right to argue out your case to be referred to a specialist. Good luck.
