That isn’t a misdiagnosis. The thyroid levels fluctuate and depending on what is tested can indicate a progressing issue.

Saw your blood results on other post... b12 deficiency has similar symptoms... vit d should be around 100, vit b12 500

Please have antibodies tested to rule out Hashimotos - TPO & Tg - if not already tested 😊

Any reasons why I should ask for these tests? Thanks Marz

To rule out (or in) autoimmune thyroid disease, aka Hashimoto's, which is where antibodies are present and they fluctuate and gradually destroy the thyroid, which could explain why you were told you might develop hypothyroidism in the future.

I have had two readings indicating that my thyroid may not be functioning properly in the past two months - doctor has agreed to do test for antibodies as I suspect it could be due to low iodine rather than antibodies (though I also suspect I may be clutching at straws there).

I have low stomach acidity so impaired absorption of vitamins and minerals and both of the tests were done the day after a really bad migraine when I had been throwing up for 24+ hours so lost a lot of bile - hence my suspicions about low iodine.

I would be very curious to see your results from the time you were 'misdiagnosed'. Misdiagnosis of hypothyroidism is very rare, because they really do not want to diagnose and treat hypo.

Do you know exactly what was tested, then? I suspect you had high antibodies, which is why they said you 'might develop it in the future'. They only possible reason they would say that is because of high antibodies - unless they had a crystal ball.

If you have high antibodies, it means you have Autoimmune Thyroiditis - aka Hashi's - where the immune system attacks the thyroid in the mistaken belief that it's the enemy. During the attack, thyroid hormone levels can rise, and then go down again. Which confuses so many doctors, because they just don't understand it. But, eventually, your thyroid is completely killed off, and you are completely hypo, and then they feel safe to treat! Poor things.

So, it depends on which phase of the cycle they test, whether you are diagnosed or not. Which is why it is so important to know what was tested, so that you can understand the results, even if your doctors can't!
