Hi, maybe it is a little larger one side?? But it is possible that it is just the natural aging process of YOUR body.No ones body is symmetrical, not the same one side to another.

We have breasts, arms, fingers everything on two sides not equal sizes mostly. Since you have had the scans test etc and nothing untoward found it is quite possible that it could be just that and nothing to be concerned about.

Ps it could also be that it is actually the un swollen side that is going thru changes I.e. it is losing the structure underneath the skin, which is normal ageing, and is making the other side look swollen by comparison.

hi cupi. I have not had a scan of my neck since the swelling etc appeared-the last ct scan I had was about a year ago and only of sinuses.it is not just swelling but tightness hoarseness and soreness +pain on swallowing and prominence of larynx and gland ,a swollen tongue but that is one of a few possibilities- ie sjogrens, reaction to antibiotics + weight loss could be attributed to thyroid and so could swollen stomach

Hi,

Please do have a scan to check this swelling out........ this is not natural ageing process...........I actually developed this same swelling overnight and prior to that, I had a very flat chin......... ENT said I had nodules, and goitre which is growing........good luck

At your GP appt, do ask for an ultrasound of thyroid glands to see whether you have nodules or not........ combined with thyroid function blood tests, then you will know where you stand..... x

I get the feeling if I go to my gp saying I have thyroidism he will say but bloods (TSH)are normal.will ask when I next see him.he refused me referral to dermatologist so was thinking if I phone A&E and ask to speak to a dr there saying 2 of their drs recommended I see a dermatologist by my gp refuses will they arrange it.

in reply to anbuma

No, they are much too busy

why did they recommend a referral to a dermatologist for thyroid/swollen glands/pain swallowing etc?I must be missing something I can't see a connection!

hi cupi

this was because altho I was there for something else(originally chest/.abdo pain and struggling to breathe)i have several skin rashes /marks on my arms -some being burn marks from oven burns and the rest just areas that appear and bleed ie when washing and scar.tehy wanted to know what they were.i couldnt say except that they just appeared and bled a lot.i know ones on my legs are probably thyroid related.(graves)

Didnt I see on the lupus site that you are seeing your rheumetologist this week and are expecting a lupus diagnosis, couldnt these symptoms be related to that as lupus can be a very complex condition. Wouldnt it be better to concentrate on one lot of symptoms first, if you are at the stage of diagnosis for lupus you would of already had an array of tests consultations etc so this seems the most sensible condition to either get a dignosis or discount it as a diagnosis, just a thought

thanks Helen.i am seeing my rheumatologist on Friday ,last time I saw him in 2011 he didnt accept what I told him about diet(he said I had gained 11 kgs in weight over 6 year period and needed to lose it)what I told him (hadn't eaten cakes biscuits snacks or puddings fro about 4 years and only ate breakfast and a small meal)was how can i diet when I don't eat anything and all weight gain is abdominal and not down to diet .nothing i can do about it.fell on deaf ears and in his letter to gp put opposite of what I did tell him.so appointment is partly to sort issues re that letter and its contents and tell him symptoms which he didnt give me the opportunity for last time.
