Hi all. Bit confused. I went to see the doctor today to get my thyroid results and he's told me my results are in range (more on this later) and showed me where they had turned green on the page. Yay! (I think?). Anyway on the way out i asked the nurse reception for the readings for my records. He gave me FT4 11.5 and TSH 17. I asked are you sure that isn't 1.7? and he replied, no, it's 17. I thought the range was 0.5-4.5. Surely the TSH can't be in range at 17. Am I missing something?

Thyroid blood results
Davenoz If you didn't get a print out then I would ask for one to be absolutely sure that the TSH is 17. If it is then you are most definitely hypothyroid, no question about it.
What's the range for FT4?
Please get a copy of your blood tests with the laboratory ranges. If in the UK you can register online for them. Never take the doctors word for it but always check it out and get the hard evidence
If your TSH is 17.0 it's likely way above range but you need to find out for sure. Then book an apt with a different GP to get an increased dose and make sure you retest in 6 week's time.
Hi. I am in the uk. Where do I go to register online for them please?
Ask your GP reception for enhanced access for blood test results. You will need to complete a form which the doc or nurse will need to sign
Then get a password from reception and they will give you info on how to register online. Sorry msg in 2 parts, technology playing up.
I just go to the receptionist and ask for a print-out of my blood test results, which she does. Some surgeries charge a nominal sum for paper/ink.
Nothings ever that simple at mine. ☺
If in England it's your right. From 2015. All surgeries had to make this facility available.
I think it is your doctor who is missing something if your TSH is 17. i.e. that you are highly hypothyroid.
