So I have a little bottle of 200mg selenium but I haven't been taking them as a lot of things online say selenium CAN make things worse if you don't know what your levels are before taking.
Is this true? Or should I be taking them? I have a tsh last reading 5.8 and I'm on 75mg Levothyroxine. Obviously still feel like crap.

Hello wowserclo I found selenium very helpful. I was on 50mcgs levothyroxine and I was not converting well. I started to take selenium and I felt so much better. It helps with conversion of T4 to T3. A plus point it was wonderful for my skin :0)
There is one member who has said they've had a problem with selenium. If you're worried, you can get it tested. If your GP wont do it then Blue Horizon or Medichecks probably both offer the test.
I posted this a little while ago, and it's relevant here:
Lots of people here take selenium. Whilst this is a valuable supplement if you are lacking, there are limits and unpleasant effects of taking too much. The level of selenium when this happens is quite low so if you have any of these symptoms, cut back.
The Office of Dietary Supplements reports that high levels of selenium in your blood, defined as a concentration of more than 100 micrograms per deciliter, causes selenosis. The symptoms of selenosis include fingernail loss, skin rash, hair loss, weight loss, fatigue and irritability.
Its important to know your basic selenium levels before adding any more. In extremis, smelling like a goat is one symptom of gross overdosing.
